It was a historic meet for the Greater Atlanta Christian girls’ squad and a repeat performance for the school’s boys’ team at the GHSA 1A-3A state championships.
The Greater Atlanta Christian girls won their first state title in program history, while the boys team captured its second in a row and third overall title (2010) at Georgia Tech University.
Girls’ Recap
Greater Atlanta Christian won with 397.5 points, easily besting the 251.5 points collected by runner-up Athens Academy.
Greater Atlanta Christian won two of the relays, first when the team of Mary Sloan-Brown (26.69), Caroline Parker (29.19), Darsey Patterson (26.60) and Abby Sutter (23.12) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:45.60.
Later, the team of Sutter (51.47), Patterson (55.82), Savannah Carter (56.83) and Kathryn Tarpley (53.31) won the 400 free relay in 3:37.43.
The 200 free relay was won by Mount Vernon’s team of Sasha Mahl (26.06), Jocelyn Towns (24.84), Sydney Morton (26.31) and Chloe Cappola (23.19) in 1:40.40.
Individually, Lovett sophomore Decker Stedman and Cappola, also a sophomore, each won two events.
Stedman won the 50 free in 23.70 and the 500 free in personal best time of 4:59.43, while Cappola, an Ohio State commit, captured the 100 fly in 55.44 and the 100 back in 55.50.
Other individual event winners were Wesleyan freshman Kinley McCalla in the 200 free (1:52.13), Mt. Pisgah sophomore Sydney Hutchins in the 200 IM (2:05.92, Wesleyan senior Abby Suits in diving (709.95), Sutter in the 100 free (51.96) and Bainbridge senior Greta Zuccaro in the 100 breast (1:03.42).

Boys’ recap
Leading the way for Greater Atlanta Christian was senior and Georgia Tech commit James Sorensen, who made himself at home in what will be his future college pool.
Sorenson won the 200 IM in personal best time of 1:50.35 and then repeated as champion in the 100 back with a time of 48.33.
Sorensen was also a part of winning teams in the 200 medley and 400 free relays.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Sorensen (22.33), Ethan James (27.30, Carson Credendino (24.01) and Andrew Wagner (22.15) won in a time of 1:40.22.
The 400 free relay was later captured by Greater Atlanta Christian’s squad of Sorensen (46.79), Daniel Ciempus (50.82), Richard Vo (50.69) and Credendino (49.28) in 3:17.58.
The other individual standout was South Carolina commit and Hebron senior Riley Richards, who won the 50 free in 20.75 and repeated as champion in the 100 free in a personal best time of 45.24.
Other individual winners were Jenkins junior Victor Clinton Rosario in the 200 free (1:40.84), King’s Ridge Christian freshman Jackson Anderson in diving (356.55), Whitefield Academy senior Stanton Zwygart in the 100 fly (48.41), Wesleyan sophomore Eric Xu in the 500 free (4;33.35) and St. Francis sophomore Asher Maurice in the 100 breast (56.52).
