Andrew Heunniger, from metro-Atlanta, Georgia, has given his verbal commitment to swim for the Kentucky Wildcats as part of the Class of 2021.

Huenniger swims for Brookwood High School and Swim Atlanta. The Brookwood men’s team won last year’s GHSA 6A state championship, and Huenniger was part of the 400 free relay that set a new state record (3:03.38). At that meet, in addition to the 400 free relay victory, Huenniger got fifth in the 200 free (1:42.07), fourth in the 100 fly (50.15) and was the final leg of the first place 200 free relay (20.82 split). Huenniger will rejoin former teammate Alex Taylor, a freshman on Kentucky’s men’s team, who he competed alongside at both Swim Atlanta and Brookwood High School.

Huenniger qualified for Winter Nationals this past summer in the 200 meter butterfly. He also has Winter Juniors cuts in the 200 meter freestyle and 200 yard butterfly.

His best times are:

Event  SCY LCM
50 Free  21.57  25.14
100 Free  46.41  53.41
200 Free  1:42.07  1:55.87
100 Fly  50.15  56.77
200 Fly  1:50.02  2:04.28

Huenniger will be a welcomed addition in Lexington, Kentucky, when he arrives in 2017. The Wildcats will have just graduated their top 200 butterflyer, current senior Kyle Higgins, but Huenniger will still have two years to train with Bowen Anderson, Matthew Beach and David Dingess. He will also have one year to train with Jacob Smith.

Huenniger becomes the fourth verbal commitment to the Kentucky men’s team, joining Joshua McDonald, Hank Siefert and Nick Smith as members of the Class of 2021.
