Georgia Swimming Reports “Misuse of LSC Funds” To Law Enforcement, Investigation Ongoing

Georgia Swimming Inc., one of the 59 Local Swim Committees (LSCs) within USA Swimming, is under investigation by a local law enforcement agency after discovering what is believed to be a misappropriation of LSC funds.

In a letter sent to LSC membership on November 23, General Chair Lucas Curotto Ferreira said that a volunteer found “what appeared to be the misuse of LSC funds,” and after a group of Executive Board members sought out experts to evaluate the data, they were presented with “strong evidence of malfeasance.”

At the time, Ferreira told membership that the matter was in the hands of law enforcement, and on Tuesday, he confirmed to SwimSwam that there is an ongoing investigation and the case will be presented to a grand jury. No timeline has been established.

The LSC said it immediately began reviewing its practices to ensure a similar situation doesn’t happen in the future.

“The Board of Directors and our Governance Committee are now engaged in reviewing our practices and putting in place guardrails which should help prevent this in the future,” Ferreria told members in November.

He also reiterated the LSC’s commitment to transparency and sharing the findings once the investigation concludes.

The LSC also noted in its letter to members that some of its administrative functions, especially those related to billing, may have a temporary delay in the coming months due to the situation.

In 2025, Georgia Swimming operated on an approximate budget of $335,000. In 2026, the organization approved a $386,062 operating budget for the year, with $365,726 in projected revenue.

Georgia Swimming hosted its 2025 Senior State Championships (SCY) in early December, with SwimAtlanta claiming the boys and girls’ team titles. The Age Group State Championships are scheduled for February 20-22 at the Columbus Aquatic Center.
