Georgia Southern Women Win 10 of 14 Events To Top UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Georgia Southern Swim and Dive defeated the University of North Florida Osprey’s 145.5 to 116.5 on Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville. The Eagles won 10 of the 14 events swam and had five first and second sweeps in final heats.

“The freshman and sophomores really stepped up to helps us lead the team to our first win of the season,” Head coach Amanda Caldwell said. “I am proud of the effort and energy level our women brought in every race. There can do attitude from start to finish is what got us there, and they really emptied the tank at the end to get it done.”

Abby Wenham continued her strong start to the season, breaking her 100 Freestyle Pool Record she set last week. Wenham swam a time of 52.69 on Saturday, as the Eagles posted four more pool records at UNF.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Zurine Clavo, Wenham, Emma Sutton, and Denise Quentin, set the pool record with a time of 1:38.05. Clavo would go on to set the 200 Freestyle individual pool record, swimming a time of 1:56.11.

Madie Banks set the pool record for the 1000 Yard Freestyle, as her and Grace Drawdy finished first and second to take home the event. Amy Hornyak set a pool record in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, while Emma Scruggs placed first in the 200 Yard Backstroke and set a pool record with a time of 2:07.00, three full seconds faster than the next competitor.

JACKSONVILLE — The 2021-22 North Florida swim team battled CCSA rival Georgia Southern Saturday on “Senior Day”. The visiting Eagles earned a 145.5 to 116.5 win in the first dual match held at the new UNF Competition pool.

MEET MOMENTS
– Event started with a bang as the Ospreys captured first and second in the opening event, the 400yd Medley Relay | Team “A” (Taylor WarrenLexi CalderAllie LarrimoreAshley Cozad) finished with a 4:01.80 followed by Team “B” (Annie FletcherKayla GlennonSarah ShiersElla Chang) in 4:03.57
– Ospreys collected a sweep of the top three finishers in the 100yd Fly led by Esther Quackenbush (59.49) followed by Ashley Cozad (59.53) and Allie Larrimore (59.59)
– Warren added a win in the 100yd backstroke clocking a 58.52 and also finished third in the 200yd backstroke (2:11.34) | She was also the squad’s top performer in the 200yd IM with time of 2:13.72, good enough for third-place
– Cozad claimed the top spot in the 200yd Fly, posting a time of 2:08.31
– Marcia Shaw finished 2nd in the 50yd Free (24.60) and third in the 100yd Free (53.98)
– Seniors Annie Fletcher and Kayla Glennon earned runner-up finishes in their final home events, in the 200yd Backstroke (2:10.70) and 200yd Breastroke (2:28.01), respectively
– Gabriella Reeves took home second in the 500yd Free with a time of 5:19.72 and senior Ryan Showfety was third in the 1,000yd Free (11:05.62)
– Senior Julianna Graf was second in the 100yd Breastroke (1:08.66)
– North Florida closed the meet finishing second and third in the 200yd Free Relay

NEXT ON THE BLOCKS
The Ospreys will have a few weeks off before returning to the pool for their first road event of the year, the FSU Quad Meet on Oct. 30 in Tallahassee, Fla.
