Georgia Keeps Another Dynamo Swimmer In-State

Basil Orr, a breaststroke and IM specialist from Dynamo Swim Club in Atlanta, has given his verbal commitment to the University of Georgia. The Bulldogs have done a terrific job keeping the top local talent in-state: Orr will join fellow Dynamo teammates Jay, Kevin, and Mick Litherland as well as SwimAtlanta’s Powell Brooks in the class of 2018.

Orr swims for St. Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta, where he was runner-up in the 100 breast at the 2013 Georgia state meet. In addition, he was a member of the St. Pius X medley relay team that finished second, and the 400 free relay that broke the school record and finished fifth at State. (National Junior Teamer Gunnar Bentz was also on those relays.)

Orr’s best short-course times in the 100/200 breast are 57.91/2:06.14, respectively, but he’s been much faster in meters, qualifying for summer Junior Nationals in both breast events and the 200 IM. His best LCM times are 1:04.86/2:23.42 in the breast and 2:09.96 in IM.

Basil Orr will be a nice addition to Jack Bauerle’s breaststroke group that includes Nic Fink, who won the 100 breast at SEC conference championships last year and was second in the 200, and Spencer Rowe.
