Georgetown Gets Verbal Agreement from NJ Breaststroker Katie King

Katie King, who swims for Coach Dan Roth at Somerset Valley YMCA in New Jersey, has made a verbal commitment to Georgetown University for 2015-16.

“I’m so excited to be a Hoya next year!  The atmosphere, location in DC, and the team are awesome.  I love this school!”

King is a senior at Montgomery High School in Skillman, New Jersey. At the 2014 New Jersey High School Meet of Champions, King took third place in the 100 breast and won the consolation of the 200 IM with the fifth-fastest time in the meet. She was also on Montgomery’s top-eight scoring 200 medley and 400 free relays. Her top short course times over the last two seasons have been:

100y breast – 1:04.38
200y breast – 2:18.77
200y IM – 2:06.67
400y IM – 4:32.37
50y free – 24.99
100y free – 53.21

At the 2014 National YMCA Short Course National Championships, King took 14th in both the 100 and 200 breast. In long course season, she placed 18th in the 50 breast (34.55) and 21st in the 100 breast (1:16) at YMCA Long Course Nationals. While she didn’t make finals in the 200 breast or the 200 IM, she did swim personal bests (2:46.41 and 2:28.40, respectively).

King will be a nice addition to the Hoyas’ squad. King’s 200 IM time would have put her in the A-final at 2014 Big East conference championships. Her best 100 breast time would have been good enough for second place, and is nearly two seconds faster than the Hoyas’ top 2014 breaststroker. And her 200 breast would have put her on top of the podium. Not only that, King’s breaststroke splits could have elevated Georgetown’s medley relays, adding double points. All this is good news for the second-place Hoyas, looking to overtake Big East champions Villanova.
