This new record follows up the 200m free scorcher Hwang put up last night at this competition. He established a new national record of 1:43.92 to take down once-banned Chinese superstar Sun Yang‘s previous Asian Record of 1:44.39 he put on the books at the 2017 World Championships.

Hwang was also a member of Korea’s new record-setting men’s 4x100m free relay, leading off in a solid outing of 47.62 to notch the second-fastest flat-start 100m freestyle of his young career.

But this freestyle speedster isn’t the only one who is clocking new national records at this competition. Lee Juho, Han Dakyung and Moon Sua also notched new lifetime bests and national standards thus far.

Lee Juho

  • New Korean record in men’s 200m backstroke – 1:55.60. The 30-year-old veteran shaved .10 off his own previous benchmark of 1:55.70 put up in the semi-finals of the event at this year’s World Championships.

Han Dakyung

  • New Korean record in women’s 400m freestyle – 4:09.69. 25-year-old Han delved under the 4:10 barrier for the first time in her career, wiping out her previous NR of 4:10.89 from March 2021.
  • New Korean record in women’s 800m freestyle – 8:36.78. Han also hacked over a second off her previous national record of 8:38.32 in the 800m free, a time logged at the 2024 Korean Olympic Trials.

Moon Sua

  • New Korean record in women’s 200m breaststroke – 2:23.21. Moon managed to slice over half a second off her previous NR of 2:23.87 turned in at the 2024 edition of this meet.
