Free/Back Specialist Brandon Dyck Gives Verbal to Florida Southern

Brandon Dyck from Cary, North Carolina has verbally committed to swim for Florida Southern College for the 2017-2018 school year. Dyck is a home schooled senior who swims primarily back and sprint freestyle with YOTA (YMCA of the Triangle Area). Under coach Chad Onken, he was a multi-event individual and relay finalist at the 2016 YMCA Short Course Nationals.

“I am thrilled to be attending to Florida Southern. When I visited the campus, I knew it was a place where I could both succeed and contribute. Go Mocs!”

Dyck had a breakout junior year, achieving a 2017 Summer Juniors cut in the 100y back (49.63), a 2017 US Open cut in the 100m back (58.05), and 2016 Winter Juniors cuts in the 200y back (1:50.24) and 200m back (2:07.52). He also picked up new times throughout the year in the SCY 50/100 free, 50 back, 100 breast, and 200 IM, as well as the LCM 50/100/200 free, 100 breast, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

His best SCY times include:

  • 100 back – 49.63
  • 200 back – 1:50.24
  • 50 free – 21.53
  • 100 free – 46.95

Dyck would have been an A finalist in both the 100/200 backstrokes and a B finalist in the 100 free at the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Championships. The Florida Southern Mocs have won four consecutive men’s conference championships, while the women posted their first win in 2016.
