Fluidra Race Video of the Week: Shaine Casas Cracks Top 10 All-Time With 50.24 100 Fly

American Shaine Casas exploded in the final of the men’s 100 fly during last week’s U.S. Open, setting a new meet record and personal best time to move into the top 10 all-time.

Casas, 25, put up a time of 50.24, edging out Canadian Ilya Kharun (50.40) for the victory and breaking his own U.S. Open meet record of 50.78, set in the prelims. His prelim swim lowered his meet record of 51.03, set in 2023.

But more importantly than the meet record, Casas lowered his three-year-old best time of 50.40, set back in 2022, and moves him into 9th all-time in the event.

Coming into the meet, he sat in a tie for 11th all-time with American legend Ian Crocker, who clocked 50.40 at the 2005 World Championships–a world record at the time.

Casas also overtakes Australian Matthew Temple (50.25), and 2016 Olympic champion Joseph Schooling, who went 50.39 en route to winning gold in Rio nine years ago. That swim from Schooling also marked the fastest textile time ever (at the time), overtaking Crocker’s mark that stood for 11 years (in textile suits).
