Florida Men/Women Set For Purdue Invitational

The No. 3/14 Florida men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams are set to compete at the Purdue Invitational on Nov. 16-18 in West Lafayette, Ind.

The field consists of 10 teams – Florida, Florida International (women), Indiana State (diving), Indiana, Missouri State, Navy (men), North Carolina (diving), Purdue, Southern Illinois and Virginia Tech.

Four of the women’s teams are ranked in the CSCAA Top 25 poll, with Indiana leading the way at ninth in the nation. Florida follows at 14th, while Purdue and North Carolina are 20th and 21st in the country.

On the men’s side, the field consists of two top-three teams in Indiana (1st) and Florida (3rd), while UNC is ranked 22nd.

The pool will feature 13 Olympians – nine swimmers and four divers. Caeleb Dressel, Jan Switkowski and Khader Baqlah represent the Gator Olympians competing.

Indiana leads the pack with seven Olympians, including gold medalists Lilly King and Blake Pieroni, as well as silver medalist Michael Hixon.

Purdue’s two Olympians and Florida International’s one round out the Rio competitors in this field.

The Gators have only faced one of the teams this season in Indiana. The men fell to the Hoosiers at the Texas/Indiana meet 242-187 and the women were dropped 215-178.

The meet will run in a preliminary/finals format, with A-B-C-D finals for each race. The preliminary sessions begin at 10 a.m. each day, followed by finals at 6 p.m.

Diving preliminaries for the 1-meter and 3-meter board will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, followed by finals at 6:15 and 6:50 each day. Saturday’s platform session begins at 12 p.m. and is finals only.
