Five-continent FINA Diving Circuit Kicks Off Today In Madrid

The 2020 edition of the FINA Diving Grand Prix kicks off today in Madrid (ESP) and will visit all the five continents until the conclusion of the circuit in November. In the Spanish capital, eight events are on the programme of the three-day competition: individual and synchro 3m springboard and 10m platform, for both men and women.

Some of the best divers of the planet will attend the first leg of this year’s Grand Prix, namely Kassidy Cook (USA) and Olena Fedorova (UKR), among women, or US star David Boudia (2012 Olympic champion), talented Yona Knight-Wisdom from Jamaica, Australian asset Shixin Li, and veteran Maicol Verzotto (ITA), in the men’s field. The event with the highest number of entries in the Spanish capital is the men’s 3m springboard, with 32 divers contesting the preliminaries.

The notable absence in Madrid will be the Chinese stars, who will not travel to Spain due to the worldwide consequences of the coronavirus.

After the Spanish competition, the eight-leg circuit will then proceed to Rostock (GER, February 20-23), Windsor (CAN, May 14-17), Singapore (SGP, May 29-31), Kuala Lumpur (MAS, June 5-7), Cairo (EGY, June 26-28), Bolzano (ITA, July 3-5) and Gold Coast (AUS, November 6-8).
