Day four finals of the 2025 European Short Course Championships saw double LC World Junior Champion and five-time LC European Junior Champion Filip Nowacki lower his day-old European Junior Record in the 200m breaststroke.
After firing off the new standard of 2:03.75 yesterday during the heats, the British ace dropped it down to a blistering 2:02.96 to ultimately place 4th overall in tonight’s final.
As we reported, until yesterday, no junior hit the 2:03.76 benchmark in this event since European Aquatics established the targets in 2016. It was the last vacant individual mark in short course.
Comparing Nowacki’s two best performances, the 18-year-old was out quicker tonight and also saved some gas for the final 50m where he was .32 swifter than his former mark.

Michael Jamieson remains the British record holder at 2:01.43 from the 2013 iteration of this meet; however, Nowacki is now the 4th-best swimmer ever from his nation in this race all-time.
