BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs started their weekend with victories over Sacred Heart University and host University of Bridgeport on Friday. The men’s team picked up a 177-119 win over Bridgeport, while the women’s team swept Bridgeport (236-53) and Sacred Heart (183-114).

The Stags saw several student-athletes pick up a pair of wins including diver Andrew Cataldo who scored a meet-best 248.25 points in the 1 meter and 289.05 in the 3 meter. Balazs Ament picked up first-place results in the 50 breast (28.74) and the 100 breast (1:02.77). Cormac Rouse also enjoyed first-place swims including the 50 free in 27.48 and the 50 butterfly in 26.30.

On the women’s side, Tone Sandsjo swept the breaststroke events by touching the wall first in the 50-yard distance (32.89) and in the 100-yard distance (1:12.51). Allie Bashor also garnered first-place swims in the butterfly races, posting a time of 29.07 in the 50-yard distance and 1:04.08 in the 100-yard distance.

Natasha De Pree and Riley Edge scored points with their first and second-place swims in the 200 free, timing out at 2:07.88 and 2:12.50 respectively.

Sofia Smerechniak (9:22.41) and Ella Lepis (9:44.01) started the meet by taking the top two spots in the 800 free. Natasha De Pree (2:07.88) and Riley Edge (2:12.50) accomplished the same task in the 200 free. Holly Rahurahu also put forth a first-place effort in the 50 back, timing out in 30.39.

Tim Regan garnered gold in the 100 butterfly by finishing the distance in 56.97. Aidan Schnapf and Cormac Rouse secured first and second place in the 100 free by registering times of 51.56 and 52.48 respectively.

The women’s team took the top three positions in the 100 back, paced by Ayva Christie’s time of 1:04.61. Katie Torrey (1:04.68) and Chloe Wukitch (1:06.19) rounded out the event for the Stags. Bashor was joined by Lara Kisakol and Natasha De Pree secured all three placements in the 50 butterfly.

Riley Edge joined Olivia Glaser to garner the top two times in the 400 IM, recording times of 5:07.82 and 5:11.98 respectively. Jack Behm also posted a win in the same event by touching the wall in 4:36.04.

The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs will continue their weekend by traveling to the University of Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon.

BRIDGEPORT, CONN -The Sacred Heart Pioneers women’s swimming and diving team competed in a split meet on Saturday in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Pioneers defeated the University of Bridgeport by a score of 227–63 but fell to Fairfield University 183–114.

Sacred Heart started the meet with the 200 SC meter medley relay. The team of Maddie GoretMaggie HollandEmma Haas, and Sophia Velleco placed second with a time of 2:01.80. Another Sacred Heart relay team finished third with a time of 2:03.13. That team included Kristen BakerDaniella PalamaroAbby Hernandez, and Emma Davis.

Maddie Goret placed second in the 50 SC meter backstroke with a time of 30.90. Daniella Palamaro finished third in the same event with a time of 35.70. In distance events, Izzy Torello placed third in the 800 SC meter freestyle with a time of 9:49.17. Maeve English also placed third in the 200 SC meter freestyle, finishing in 2:13.53.

Sophia Velleco had a strong day for the Pioneers. She placed second in the 100 SC meter butterfly with a time of 1:04.20 and won the 100 SC meter freestyle in 59.51. Emma Davis competed in the 50 SC meter freestyle and finished with a time of 27.67. Maggie Holland placed third in the 100 SC meter backstroke with a time of 1:18.10.

In the 400 SC meter freestyle, Charlotte Kaduson finished first with a time of 4:40.35. Laura DeGennaro placed third in the same event with a time of 4:47.19.

The diving team had a great meet. Ryleigh Mahoney won both diving events. She placed first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 281.18 and also won the 3-meter dive with a score of 303. Phifey Boyers finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 247.95. In the 3-meter dive, Sinclair Yadao placed second with 244.95 points, and Kara Leahy placed third with a score of 238.13.

With this meet, Sacred Heart tied the program record for the most wins in a season. The Pioneers will travel to Worcester to face Holy Cross and try to break the program record.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the first of two home meets in less than 24 hours, the University of Bridgeport’s women’s swimming and diving team dropped matchups to Division I opponents Fairfield and Sacred Heart on Friday.

Freshmen Luca Olsen and Cristal Margarita Gómez Rodriguez led the Purple Knights with a pair of top-five performances.

Olsen paced the UB in the distance events, placing fourth in both the 800-free (9:57.55) and the 400-free (4:47.83).

Gómez Rodriguez continued her strong breaststroke season with a third-place finish in the 50-breast (35.95) and a fourth-place effort in the 100-breast (1:18.39).

Pierina Ferraresi followed Gomez Rodriguez in the 50-breast with a four-place time of 36.43.

Ceyda Genç added a fifth-place performance in the 100-fly, touching in 1:06.97.

Rounding out Bridgeport’s top-five efforts, Anna Forlani placed fourth in the 400-IM with a time of 5:21.13.

The Purple Knights will host their final home meet of the season tomorrow morning (10:30 a.m.) against the College of Staten Island.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the first of two home meets in less than 24 hours, the University of Bridgeport’s men’s swimming and diving team dropped a dual-meet matchup (177-119) to Fairfield University on Friday. UB’s defeat to the DI Stags is the Purple Knights’ first loss of the season (9-1).

The Purple Knights opened the day with a thrilling second-place finish in the 200-medley relay, as Christian ToussiJurica DragunMaximiliano Pedrozo Sevila and Camilo Villalba Vera touched in 1:43.85, just three-tenths of a second shy of first.

Sultanbek Azat anchored Bridgeport’s individual efforts with a sensational three-win afternoon, winning the 800-free in 8:34.47 before also claiming gold in the 200-free (1:52.88) and 400-free (4:02.83).

Toussi showcased his versatility with victories in both the 50-back (26.06) and 100-back (57.59), while also adding a runner-up finish in the 100-fly (58.48).

Dragun joined the win column by taking the 50-breast in 28.32 and finishing second in the 100-breast with a time of 1:03.79.

Bridgeport continued to pile up top finishes as Ryan Wall placed second in the 800-free (8:37.34) and Ignacy Olownia narrowly missed a victory in the 400-IM, clocking a 4:36.33 to finish just 0.29 seconds behind first.
