European Junior Champs Participant Duru Tanriverdi Commits to Texas A&M

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Turkish swimmer Duru Tanriverdi has committed to Texas A&M University as a member of the class of 2022.

Tanriverdi, who is originally from Ankara, Turkey, represented the country at the 2021 European Junior Championships last month. There, she finished 16th in the 1500 freestyle, 25th in the 200 butterfly, and 22nd in the 400 IM. Tanriverdi also competed at the 2018 edition of the meet, finishing 18th overall in the 800 freestyle. Currently, Tanriverdi represents the Fenerbahce Sports Club in domestic competitions.

Personal Bests LCM (with SCY Conversions)

  • 800 freestyle – 8:46.83 (9:50.28)
  • 1500 freestyle – 16:38.51 (16:18.93)
  • 200 butterfly – 2:15.36 (1:59.42)
  • 400 IM – 4:53.88 (4:18.99)
  • 200 freestyle – 2:09.45 (1:53.73)
  • 400 freestyle – 4:21.45 (4:52.94)

If Tanriverdi can match her long course times in the short course pool, she will be a major contributor at Texas A&M. Last season, Tanriverdi’s best converted times in the 1000 freestyle and the 1650 freestyle would have ranked her 2nd on the team’s roster, with her 1650 freestyle time scoring at the 2021 SEC Championships. In addition, both her 200 butterfly and 400 IM converted times would have ranked her 6th on the roster, giving her a strong third event to add to her line-up. With over a year left to improve before arriving on campus, Tanriverdi may develop into a 4×200 freestyle relay threat as well.

Last season, Texas A&M finished 6th out of 12 teams at the 2021 SEC Women’s Championships. At the meet, they were led by Taylor Pike, who finished 3rd overall in the 200 butterfly and 2nd in the 100 butterfly. In the distance events, Texas A&M’s top finisher was Camryn Toney, who finished 6th overall in the 1650 freestyle (the 1000 freestyle is not traditionally contested in NCAA competitions).

Tanriverdi will join Manita Sathianchokwisan, Hadley Beeson, Blakely Schuricht, and Sarah Lankford in Texas A&M’s class of 2026 on the women’s side.
