CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The championships records continued to fall on Saturday at the 2020 Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
After three days of the action at the 2020 Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships, it is Emmanuel that narrowly holds the lead for the teams in both men’s and women’s swimming, but Barton is right behind them and within striking distance entering the final day of the championships on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020.
The conference championships that fell on Saturday were in the men’s 100 yard backstroke (Barton’s Bartlomiej Swiderski – 48.78), the women’s 100 yard breaststroke (Emmanuel’s Julia Simioni -1:05.01), the men’s 100 yard breaststroke (Emmanuel’s Joao Santos – 52.77) and the women’s 800 freestyle relay (Barton – 7:44.59).
The 2020 Conference Carolinas Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships are being held in conjunction with the 2020 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships.
Championships Sunday will include the 100 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, the 200 breaststroke, the 1650 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay.
Conference Carolinas will crown a men’s and women’s team champion at the conclusion of all of the events on Sunday, Feb. 16.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On day three of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships, the Queens University of Charlotte men’s and women’s swimming teams inched closer to their sixth straight BMC title.
The Queens women currently have 807.5 team points, while Wingate University sits in second place with 553 team points. For the men, Queens has amassed 705.5 team points, leading second place Wingate which has a team total of 589. On Saturday evening, the Royals combined to win eight of the 10 events bringing their championship total to 24 victories over three days.
The men recorded the night’s first victory as sophomore Luke Erwee won the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:24.73. Fellow sophomore Jan Delkeskamp followed with a win in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, while two more sophomores in Alex Kunert (1:45.44) and Ruben Stam (1:48.30) finished 1-2 in the 200-Yard Butterfly.
Queens’ 800-Yard Freestyle Relay team of Kunert, Skyler Cook-Weeks, Cezary Butkiewicz, and Bennett Maczka turned in a time of 6:29.41 to claim the top spot.
On the women’s side, senior Polina Lapshina (53.63), junior Rachel Massaro (54.11), and sophomore Bobbi Gichard (54.46) swept the podium in the 100-Yard Backstroke.
Freshman Mikaela Fullerton won the 100-Yard Breaststroke, while fellow freshman Yuliia Stadnyk and senior Georgia DaCruz were first and second, respectively, in the 200-Yard Butterfly. The 800-Yard Freestyle Relay team of Danielle Melilli, Hannah Foster, Lexie Baker, and Francesca Bains won the race by a margin of nearly nine seconds over a foursome from Wingate.
The Royals wrap up competition in the 2020 BMC Championships tomorrow with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals at 5 p.m. from the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
