Dutch Expecting Strong British & German Racers At Rotterdam Qualification Meet

The 2022 Rotterdam Qualification Meet begins on Thursday, December 1st and the 4-day affair is packed with talent. Not only with the domestic Dutch contingent be showing up in full force, but a plethora of high-profile athletes from Great Britain, Spain, Germany, Romania, Ireland and more are expected to enter the mix.

This competition represents an opportunity for swimmers to qualify for the 2023 FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, as well as the 2023 Para-Swimming World Championships in Manchester.

For the Dutch, the usual suspects to the tune of Jesse Puts, Thomas Verhoeven, Kenzo Simons, Marrit Steenbergen, Kim Busch, Maaike de Waard, Tes Schouten and Kira Toussaint are expected to race.

Incoming from the University of Bath is a list of high-caliber athletes including reigning 200m free Olympic champion Tom Dean. Dean is entered in the 100m free, 200m free, as well as an ‘off’ event of the 100m fly.

In the latter event, he’ll be pitted against training partner James Guy, while additional Bath men headed to Rotterdam include Kieran Bird, Brodie Williams, Ed Mildred and Jacob Peters.

The British women are also coming in strong with Freya Anderson leading a pack that includes Holly Hibbott and Leah Crisp.

Key swimmers among other nations include Oussama Sahnoune of Algeria, Renzo Tjon A Joe of Suriname, Christian Diener of Germany, Roos Vanotterdijk of Belgium and Kaylene Corbett of South Africa

Seems like an odd choice for the Dutch girls given it’s LCM and 9 days before Melbourne? Most European nations will be en route by then
