Texas state diving champion Nathaniel Hernandez has verbally committed to dive for Duke University beginning in the fall of 2016. Hernandez is a senior at Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas, where in addition to winning the 2015 Texas UIL 6A State Meet title, he was named 2014-15 NISCA/Speedo Boys High School Diving National Champion for the 2014-15 school year.

Hernandez dives for GC Divers, a club based in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. He competed at ATT Nationals this past summer in 1-meter, 3-meter and platform diving, picking up a seventh place in 16-18 Boys 1m J.O and a fourth in 16-18 Boys Platform J.O.

“I am so excited to join the Duke Swim/Dive family. The excellent quality of academics, combined with the ever-increasing improvement of the program, has led me to this decision. I feel very confident that under diving coach Nunzio Esposto I will be able to thrive. I can’t wait to be a Blue Devil!”

Hernandez is a huge pick-up for the Blue Devils, who didn’t score in diving at 2015 ACC Championships. In addition to what he can add to Duke’s results at the conference level, Hernandez is a potential NCAA scorer from his freshman year onward.
