Distance Swimmer Carter Kale Verbally Commits to Virginia Tech

The teams of the ACC continue to try and capitalize on the relative-weakness of the conference in the distance freestyles (which seems to be a fleeting description), with the latest to get in on the party being the Virginia Tech Hokies.

This week, they got a verbal commitment from Junior Nationals qualifying distance swimmer Carter Kale, who excels in the 500-1650 yard freestyles, and is solid in the 200 back and 200 fly events as well.

Best times:

  • 200 free – 1:42.71
  • 500 free – 4:30.82
  • 1000 free – 9:16.45
  • 1650 free – 15:38.58
  • 200 back – 1:50.59
  • 200 fly – 1:49.33
  • 400 IM – 3:58.11

He made big improvements as a junior, including dropping 9 seconds in the 500 free to place 5th at the 2014 NASA junior National Cup. At that same meet, he won the 200 fly with a total four-second drop across the season.

Kale swims for the Williamsburg Aquatic Club in Virginia and Lafayette High School. He’s the defending Virginia High School League 3A Champion in the 500 free, though the 4:45 he swam at that meet is nowhere near his best.
