Delaware Sets Three Pool Records To Highlight 2023 Blue Hen Invite

NEWARK, Del. – Mania Tasakou of Delaware’s women’s swimming & diving program set the UD Pool record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.24 on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Blue Hen Invite. The team of Anthi LyraErin ShemaNicole Chiappaand Mira Selling also set a UD Pool record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:32.92.

Mira Selling also placed first in the 50 free (23.70), 100 back (56.04), and 200 butterfly (2:01.12), while Shema won the 200 free with a time of 1:49.25 and the 200 back with a time of 2:00.42. Tasakou finished in first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.14 as well.

Natalie Dobrzykowski finished in first place in the 100 free (52.02), Alexandra Misikova placed second (52.87), and Aislinn Mitchell finished in fourth (54.28). Also in the 50 free, Kaitlyn Sullivan finished in fourth place at 24.15 and Bella Granetzke finished in fourth place (24.17). In the 500 free, Lyra finished in first place with a time of 5:01.46 and Cristin Earley finished in second place with a time of 5:03.46.

Granetzke led the way in the 100 fly with a  time of 57.22, while Marietta Gately placed third at 1:00.34 and Jordynn Park finished fourth (1:00.39).  Also in the 200 fly, Mitchell placed second with a time of 2:03.16, Erin Lillis placed third (2:03.73), and Julia Cichowska (2:04.33) placed fourth.

Julia Servas finished in first place in the 1-meter ( 290.78) and 3-meter (295.05) dive, both NCAA Zone marks. Rowan O’Sullivan recorded a season-best in the 3-meter at 268.13, and had a score of 256.20 in the 1-meter, both second place finishes.

Delaware will next compete at the CAA Championships from Feb. 22-Feb. 24 in Hampton, Va.

NEWARK, Del. – Matvei NamakonovToni SabevGavin Currie, and Miguel Vasquez set a men’s UD Pool record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:22.92 on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Blue Hen Invite.

Toni Sabev also finished in first place in the 100 breast at 53.91 and 100 free at 46.25.

Also in the 100 breast, Zach Sherk (55.95), Jack Zapp (58.09), and Jack Gibson (58.13) finished second, third, and fourth. In the 200 breast, Jack Hattery placed first at 2:01.96. Hattery also finished in second place in the 100 fly (49.47).

Vasquez led the way in the 100 back (51.44), with Tim Grossi placing second (52.22) and Collins placing third (52.37). In the 200 back, Currie placed first at 1:45.79 and DJ Fechtman placed second (1:52.96).

Ryan Polino won the 50 free (21.27) and 200 free (1:41.46). Also in the 50 free, Sherk finished in second place (21.35), T.J. Yaglenski in third place (21.43), and Evan Ciecko in fourth place (22.93). Dylan Smolders placed second (1:42.46) in the 200 free and 200 IM with a time of 1:53.07.

Simeon Sabev won the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.99.

Andrew Taylor finished in second place in 1650 free with a time of 15;32.77, the second best time in school history.

Jack Gibson (4:02.24) finished in second place in the 400 IM.

Kevin Siegfried finished in first place in the 1-meter with a new personal best of 330.45, an NCAA Zone Cut mark. Philip Townsend send finished in second place at 258.53. Townsend also finished in first place in the 3-meter at 312.83, with Siegfried finishing second at 292.95.

Delaware will next compete at the CAA Championships from Feb. 22-Feb. 24 in Hampton, Va.

NEWARK, DE – The Johns Hopkins men’s swim team won five events at the Blue Hen Invitational, which featured host Delaware and Lehigh. The Blue Jays also posted a pair career-best swims and three NCAA B qualifying times.

Freshman Matthew Hartshorn kicked things off with a win and an NCAA B time. He clocked in at 4:01.08 to win the 400 IM in the first event of the day. Sophomore Daniel Byrnes followed with a third-place finish in the 200 Free in 1:42.61. Sophomore Joe Castagno and senior Brandon Stride then took fifth and sixth place in the 100 Breast. Castagno finished in 58.16, just four hundredths of a second out of fourth place. Stride followed with a swim of 58.63.

Freshman Avery Clapp took second in the 200 Fly as he touched in 1:50.96. Senior Kyle Wu then took second in the 100 Free with a swim of 46.72.

Hopkins then won four of the next six events. Junior Kellen Roddy got things going when he won the 1650 Free. He turned in his best time of the season, and an NCAA B time, of 15:25.15. Wu placed second in the 200 Breast with a swim of 2:04.30. Clapp then won the 100 Fly as he clocked in with a time of 49.30.

Senior Steven Rua continued the winning ways as he grabbed the top spot in the 200 IM. He posted an NCAA B time of 1:49.88. Castagno finished in third (1:55.63) and Stride finished in fourth (1:57.04). Roddy placed fifth in the 50 Free with a career-best swim of 22.99. The Blue Jays ended the day with a win and second-place finish in the 500 Free. Byrnes earned the win with a swim of 4:38.57, while Hartshorn turned in a career-best swim of 4:46.99.

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Lehigh women’s swimming and diving team sent some of its swimmers to the Blue Hen Invite Saturday afternoon, which would be the last meet of the season for these particular swimmers. 

“They had fantastic end-of-the-season performances,” said head coach Rob Herb.

Sarah Santos paced the way as she won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:24.02. Santos also had a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.84). 

Juliana Guida competed in three events on Saturday, taking second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.88), fourth in the 200-yard freestyle ( 1:53.80) and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.33). 

Monica Wintermute took home a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (57.39), while also placing second in the 200-yard IM( 2:07.76). 

Anushree Ghate had a second-place finish as well in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.62) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.51).

The Mountain Hawks will resume their season in the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 15 in Lewisburg, Pa.
