College Swimming Weekly Preview: Sept. 22-26, 2021

After UNC Wilmington got the ball rolling with a decisive sweep over Army last Friday, the NCAA swimming season truly gets into the swing of things this week with a busy slate of meets.

Headlining the plethora of intrasquad meets is the annual Orange-White meet at the University of Texas on Friday, where the reigning men’s NCAA champions will get in some early season racing before taking on their first opponent, Incarnate Word, on October 8.

Another highlight of the opening week is the Cal vs Cal Poly “King and Queen of the Pool” showdown, the 11th year the schools have met to vie for the titles.

That meet, hosted at Cal Poly on Friday, features five 100-yard races—back, breast, fly, free and individual medley—with the male and female swimmer producing the lowest combined time declared King and Queen of the Pool.

It’s worth noting that it’s become a bit of a trend for team’s not to release full results of their intrasquad meets, but we expect to get them from the Orange-White Texas meet, at the least.

We’ll also see the first meet of the Margo Geer era at Alabama, with the Crimson Tide opening their season against Delta State, and the reigning SEC champion Kentucky Wildcats will open their season with an intrasquad.

Below is a list of the D1 meets we’ll be covering at SwimSwam this week. If we missed any, please leave them in the comments and we’ll get them added.
