College Swimming Weekly Preview: January 5-11

It is one of the busiest weeks of the season with over 70 dual meets this week. Highlighting that list includes the dual meet between Indiana and Michigan which is a top 15 showdown on both sides.

The women’s side is expected to be a close battle as the Michigan women sit at #4 and the Indiana women #5 in SwimSwam’s latest power rankings. Highlighting the meet will be the collegiate debut of Olympic medalist Alex Shackell. Shackell was the #1 ranked recruit in the girls high school class of 2025.

Among other midseason arrivals with the potential to compete this week include Anastasia Gorbenko who has the potential to represent Louisville as they race Missouri. See a full list of midseason additions that SwimSwam had been made aware of here.

Virginia will host Penn State for senior night. Kyle Sockwell will be in attendance, Kevin Cargill will be the announcer, and a DJ will provide live music as well.
