College Station, Columbus To Host 2016 US Winter Junior Championships

USA Swimming has updated its Quad Plan for 2016-2017 to include what appear to be the host cities for the two 2016 Speedo Winter Junior Championships.

The Quad Plan lists two meets on December 7-10, 2016 – one in College Station, Texas and the other in Columbus, Ohio.

The Winter Junior National meet will be split into two for the first time this year, with the West meet taking place in Austin, Texas and the East happening in Atlanta, Georgia. The meets have also been renamed from “Winter Junior Nationals” to “Winter Junior Championships.”

Now, it appears the second editions of the split meets will take place in College Station and Columbus, at least according to the Quad Plan, which you can view here. The Quad Plan does note that its schedule is tentative and subject to change in the future.

The move would put the Winter Junior Championships on a pair of college campuses once again – College Station is home to Texas A&M University and its aquatic facility, while the Ohio State University calls Columbus its home.

Geographically, there’s not much change in the West Championships, which stay within the state of Texas, very much in the center of the country. The East Championships provide a more northern option, though, after both 2015 hosts were very much in the southern portion of the country.

Though the boundaries could certainly change, this map shows which states are included in each Championship for the 2015 event.
