Coleman Saves The Day: The Ft. Lauderdale Open Livestream is ON!

SwimSwam’s ‘face of the franchise’ Coleman Hodges has just landed in South Florida, and he brings with it some good news.

“I’ll make it work.”

With many of the world’s best swimmers arriving in Ft. Lauderdale this weekend for the Ft. Lauderdale Open, there has been much consternation from swimming fans that there hasn’t been any livestream plan.

So we reached out to Dave Gibson and the host team and said “what can we make work?” and they reacted quickly and agreed to give us the space to “make it work.”

Coleman is hustling to the pool now to get it set up. The streams will be on SwimSwam’s YouTube page, which you can find here (subscribe, like, and follow! I want that 100k button!)

For tonight’s 1500s, he’s going to do the best he can, and then work on getting it all framed out for the rest of the meet. Because of the last minute nature of this, it’s not going to be perfect, but we’re going to do, at a minimum, the “point a camera at the pool” version. Coleman will also be capturing races to post on YouTube after the fact.

Kevin Cargill, the lead USA Swimming and NCAA deck announcer right now, will be there calling the meet, so hopefully we can figure out how to pick up his audio as well.

The only ‘unknown’ is internet access. It’s an outdoor meet so worst case we can try to stream off a hotspot, but best case the facility will just have good internet access.

We’ll see y’all from the deck tonight!

I hope he post race footage. Cause the stream is rly bad quality. But I appreciate you swimswam and Coleman. At least you guys understand what this sport needs.
