Colby College Sweeps Team Titles At 2025 Maine Collegiate Invite

The Colby women’s swimming and Diving team put on a dominating performance at the Maine College Invite over the past two days and won the meet by over 600 points. The next closest team was Division I, the University of Maine with fellow NESCAC schools Bowdoin College and Bates College following. Final team scores were:

From the first event right to the last event the Mules showed their dominance to all of the other schools from the state of Maine and did it in a very impressive fashion. Along the way the team set 4 school records, 7 meet records, 1 pool record (Eliza Marco -100 IM), achieved 6 NCAA B cuts and diver Avery Rappaport qualified for the NCAA Regional diving meet. A great performance by the entire team as there were 50 individual additions added to the All time program top 20 as well as 6 relay additions. (list posted below)

The strength of the team really shined thorough both in the individual events and relays. In all three relays the Mules got 1st and 3rd with both teams beating most of the other teams best relays. All 3 Colby A relays achieved NCAA B times and have a very good chance at qualifying for the NCAA Championships meet with those times.

Individually there were multiple event winners as Marco picked up 4, Coates won 3 while Asch and Rappaport both won two. In addition Abby Bauman won the 1650 Free for the Mules:

It was a great way to conclude the fall semester and with this meet the Mules finished up an unbeaten fall and look forward to keep their win streak going. After finals they will head to Key Largo, Fl on the 16th for  a week of winter training and return to campus on Jan 2nd, They will continue their dual meet schedule on January 1oth in Middlebury, VT as they face off against Middlebury College. The meet start time is 1 pm.

The Colby Men’s Swimming and Diving Team competed against fellow Maine schools, including NESCAC members Bowdoin College and Bates College in a 3 session meet and came away with the victory at the Maine College Invitational. This win marks the 4th time in school history that the Mules have won the Invitational.  The meet would come down to the 3rd session where the Mules would have one of their strongest efforts as a team and come away with the win.

Senior Brandon Xiong led the way with three individual events (50 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke) wins as well as achieving an NCAA B cut in the 50 freestyle and setting meet records in all 3. He was joined by freshman Brendan Kirberger who won both the 500 Freestyle and 1650 Freestyle where he set meet records as well. His times in both of those events were also 2nd in school history as well as First year Colby Swimming records. Fellow freshman Alex Ruckel-Bekefi also added his name to the Colby record books as he set First year records in both the 50 (2nd in school history) and 100 Butterfly (3rd in school history). In addition, Amaan Siddiqui  set a First year record with his swim in the 200 Freestyle which is 2nd in school History.

The depth of the Colby team really was what led to the victory. In the final individual event, the 100 IM, the Mules put 4 swimmers in the top 8, including seniors Xiong, Alexander MacLennan and Noam Reinhorn to help keep them in the lead and seal the win. Overall there were 30 individual additions to the All time Colby top 20 as well as 5 relay entries. The Mules had a historic fall with their first ever win over Amherst Collge and continuing with this great win at the Invite. After finals they will head to Key Largo for a week of training on the 16th. The team will return to campus and get ready for their first meet on January 10th against Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT. The meet start time is 1:00 pm.

WATERVILLE, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swimming & diving team placed second at the Maine State Meet, hosted by Colby College, with 744.5 points.

Charlotte Hoover was Maine’s top individual performer as she tied the school record with a second place time of 59.95 in the 100-yard butterfly while adding a runner-up showing in the 100-yard IM (58.26) and taking the bronze in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.47.

Eva Welsh turned in four top-10 marks by placing second in the 400-yard IM (4:33.93), sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.24), seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.26), and fifth in the 100-yard IM (59.84).

The Black Bears placed three in the top-10 of the 400 IM, led by Welsh, while Erin Madigan placed ninth at 4:46.13 followed by Kathleen Bendoraitis in 10th at 4:48.02.

Nicolene Harkins took fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (58.35) and placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (53.26).

Emily Yorkievitz finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:56.68 and eighth in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:11.97.

Laura Dube placed eighth in the 100-yard IM (1:00.49) and led three Black Bears in the top-10 of the 100-yard breaststroke with a fifth place showing at 1:06.21. Gabi Volpe (8th-1:08.65) and Alexa Coughlan (10th-1:09.76) followed Dube in the 100-yard breaststroke. Coughlan tacked on a fifth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:28.35.

Maine added a trio of top-10 showing in the distance event, led by Liliana Nelson’s fourth place finish in the 1650-free at 17:51.81. Nelson was followed by Madigan in eighth (18:03.75) and Lydia Williams in 10th at 18:21.03.

Bella Wilinson (5th-2:10.30) and Alicia Littler (6th-2:10.65) each took top-10 spots in the 200-yard backstroke.

On the board, Maddie Ruppert took the bronze in the 1-meter with a score of 228.60 and placed fourth on the 3-meter at 202.40. Rachel Silva placed third in the 3-meter (224.20) and fourth in the 1-meter (222.35).

Littler, Hoover, Obszarny, and Yorkievitz were the runner-up in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:31.90.

Hoover, Dube, Obzarny, and Littler teamed up to take fourth in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:47.41.

WATERVILLE, MAINE — The University of Maine men’s swimming & diving team placed third with 777.5 points at the Maine State Meet, hosted by Colby College.

Joey Stauss had the top individual showing for Maine as he set the school and meet record in the 200-yard butterfly with a winning time of 1:48.80. Stauss added a runner-up showing in the 100-yard breaststroke at 56.75.

Matthew Bendoraitis won the 200-yard backstroke at 2:12.81 and placed 10th in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:45.33.

Jackson White placed fifth in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:57.88 and tied for ninth in the 100-yard butterfly with a final time of 52.20.

Julian LaPietra placed third in the 100-yard freestyle at 45.42 and took seventh in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:44.86. Nate Teerlinck posted a fifth place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.81) and took eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.55).

Noah Machristie finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.17) and took eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.55).

Ian Mallari took seventh in both the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.77) and the 100-yard IM (53.78).

On the boards, Gray Miller set the meet record with a winning score of 293.20. Jeremiah Small won the 3-meter event with a meet record score of 291.25 and took second in the 1-meter at 267.35.

DJ Mulligan was the runner-up on the 3-meter (240.60) and took third on the 1-meter (247.70).

Stauss, LaPietra, White, and Scott Klein took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:04.68.

Bendoraitis, Teerlinck, Stauss, and LaPietra paired up to place fifth in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:32.26.
