2019 CARLSBAD SECTIONALS

The 2019 Carlsbad Sectionals kicked off quietly in southern California, with just the women’s 1000 free and men’s 1650 free on the first night’s schedule.

In  the women’s race, 14-year old phenom Claire Tuggle swam a new lifetime best of 9:41.96. That jumps Tuggle from 13th place to 10th place in 13-14 age group history in the event.

Riverside’s Liberty Williams finished 2nd in the race in 9:48.03.

Her twin brother Jude Williams topped the men’s 1650 free in 15:20.32. That’s about 8-and-a-half seconds short of his lifetime best in the event, but still was enough for a comfortable 8-second win. Mission Viejo’s Hunter Kroll finished 2nd in 15:28.09.

The meet will kick into full gear on Friday morning with the 100 fly, 500 free, 100 back, 200 IM, and 400 medley relay races for both boys and girls.
