In recent years, teams in Colorado 5A boys high school swimming have been up a creek trying to dethrone Cherry Creek.
For the third straight year and 15th time overall, Cherry Creek claimed the title, prevailing by 50 points over runner-up Regis Jesuit.
“It has been nice to have this run, but it’s the kids and the work that they do to put it together to get us to this point. I could not be more proud of them,” Cherry Creek head coach Chris Loftus told the CHSAA.
Cherry Creek only won two events on the day, but those, along with its depth, were enough to prevail.
Leading the way was senior Kian Lihalakha, who won the 100 breast in a personal best time of 55.87.
Lihalakha also was a part of Cherry Creek’s winning team in the 200 medley relay, splitting 24.37 on the breast leg to help the squad win in a time of 1:30.00. Other team members were Chase Emerson on back (23.25), Cade Palamateer on fly (21.73) and Kevin Schwartz on free (20.65).
Cherry Creek senior Grant Pier, an Arizona commit, had a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 free (1:39.38) and the 500 free (4:32.98).
The individual standouts were Regis Jesuit sophomore Treyvn Krauss and Valor Christian senior Josh Heydt.
Krauss won the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:37.72 and the 500 free in 4:26.98.
Heydt, an Arizona commit, won the 100 free in a personal best time of 43.62 and the 100 back in 48.33.
