This past weekend, the Capital City Swim League (CCSL) Championships were contested at LSU in Baton Rouge, LA. Fast swimming at the top of each event was abundant as teams from the area were in the final preparations for their state championships in two and a half weeks in Sulphur, LA. Catholic (boys) and Saint Joseph’s Academy (girls) once again dominated the competition and emerged as champions. Highlights from the weekend came in the form of three meet records and two All-American consideration times.

Jolee Liles, Parkview Baptist School and Olivia Huffman, the Dunham School, were named co-female swimmers of the meet for their efforts while Nicholas Lee, Brusly High School, was named male swimmer of the meet for his swims.

Liles won the 200 IM in 2:04.24 and the 500 freestyle in 4:53.27 both of which are NISCA All American consideration times. The 500 time for Liles broke her meet record from last year by 6 seconds. Huffman won the 50 freestyle in 23.69 and the 100 freestyle in 51.61 just missing All American standards by slim margins. Huffman, the Kentucky commit, just missed the meet records by about half a second in both races.

Lee, who does not swim year round (to our knowledge, but it should be confirmed) won the 50 free in 22.02 and the 100 fly in 51.67.

On the girls side, SJA, won the meet with depth and two relay wins in the 200 and 400 free relays. Other winners on the girls side included 8th grader Rylee Moore of Parkview Baptist in the 100 fly (57.98) and 100 back (57.49), Chanler Turnely, Episcopal, a San Diego commit, in the 100 breast (1:08.08) and Johannah Cangelosi, University in the 200 free (1:56.25).

On the boys side, Catholic dominated winning by nearly 400 points. The day was highlighted by three relay wins including two in record time. The 200 medley team of Grant Dawson, Jonathan McKehough, Carter Richard and Nick Romero started the day off with a meet record time of 1:36.93 and the 400 Free relay team of Richard, Braden Nyboer, Michael Padial and Sion Cavana went 3:12.48 to break the record by less than .20 seconds. Other winners for the day from Catholic included Cavana in the 200 free (1:43.20) and 100 free (47.50), Padial in the 200 IM (1:54.91), and Mason Nyboer in the 500 free (4:41.23). Miles Jantzi of the Dunham School won the 100 back (54.20).
