Carmel, Indiana Standout Alex Clarke Verbally Commits to Purdue

Alex Clarke, of Carmel High School and Carmel Swim Club, has made a verbal commitment to the Purdue Boilermakers for 2015-16.

Clarke was the breaststroke leg on Carmel High School’s National Public School record-breaking 200 medley relay at the 2014 Indiana state girls swimming and diving championships. (We reported about it here.) The Carmel girls medley relay has been the fastest high school team in the country for the last two years in a row. Individually, Clarke finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:01.45) and fifth in the 100 breast (1:03.38) at the 2014 state meet.

Clarke is incredibly versatile and has national cuts in IM, fly, breast, and back. Her best times are:

200y IM: 2:01.19
400y IM: 4:21.13
100y breast: 1:02.71
100y fly: 55.53
200y fly: 2:00.49
100y back: 56.01
200y back: 2:02.53
50y free: 23.74

The good news for Purdue is that she will be able to fill in as needed. Clarke has dropped 5.8 seconds in the 200 fly, 4 in the 200 back, 3.7 in the 400 IM, 2.8 in the 100 breast, and 2 in the 100 fly over the last two seasons. Wherever the Boilermakers decide to have her focus, she should be an impact swimmer for them rather quickly.
