AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team faced off against each other in their annual Cardinal and Gold Meet at home on Friday evening. The Cardinal team won nine of 17 events, allowing them to take home the win over team Gold. Corrine Guist, team Cardinal captain, won two of her three events, including the 100 and 200 freestyles. Freshman Kendall Mallers also put on a strong performance winning two out of her three events for team Gold: the 50 and 200 flies.
“We had a lot of people that were ahead of where they were a year ago,” said head coach Matt Leach. “A lot of our freshman stepped up and were ready to race, and to me, that was the biggest thing. People that are doing things the right way, winning their events and swimming well, and this is just our first step.”
