Cal Women Secure Verbal Commitment from #20 Mia Su for 2027-28

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Mia Su from Sunnyvale, California, has announced her intention to swim and study at the University of California, Berkeley, beginning in the fall of 2027. She wrote on social media:

“I am so grateful and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at the University of California, Berkeley. I would like to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support throughout this process, along with Coach Kevin and all my coaches at Santa Clara Swim Club for helping me get to where I am today. A special thank you to everyone on the Cal coaching staff who made this possible. I am beyond excited for this amazing opportunity! Go Bears!! 🐻💙💛”

Su is a junior at Archbishop Mitty High School. She does her year-round swimming with Santa Clara Swim Club and specializes in breaststroke and IM. We ranked her #20 in the cohort on our Way Too Early list of top swimming recruits from the high school class of 2027. At the time of our rankings, she was the 4th-fastest 100/200 breaststroker in the class, and she ranked 7th in the 400 IM.

She kicked off the 2024-25 short-course season with PBs in the 50/100 free, 200 breast, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM at the SMST Folsom Classic last November. A month later, competing at Winter Juniors West, she lowered her 200 breast (2:12.65) and 400 IM (4:16.17) times and added a new PB in the 100 breast (1:00.86), while finaling in the 100 breast (11th), 200 breast (12th), and 400 IM (11th). In February, she dropped another 1.4 in the 400 IM.

In high school season, the sophomore won the 100 breast (1:00.96) and placed 4th in the 200 IM (2:01.89) at the CIF-Central Coast Section Championships, before going on to the California State Meet and finishing 2nd in the breast (1:01.00) and 14th in the IM (2:03.81).

Su had a strong long-course season as well, culminating in PBs of 32.48/2:28.82 in the 50/200 breast at Summer Junior Nationals. She placed 3rd in the 200 breast (2:28.82), 10th in the 100 breast (1:10.15), 14th in the 50 breast (32.48, prelims), and 18th in the 400 IM (4:54.93).

Best SCY times:

  • 100 breast – 1:00.86
  • 200 breast – 2:12.25
  • 400 IM – 4:14.71
  • 200 IM – 2:01.07

Su is committing to the Golden Bears with “Best of the Rest” butterflyer Alba Arnall. Although Su is technically the first top 20-ranked recruit to commit to Cal’s class of 2031, that number is misleading because the #2 recruit from the class of 2027, Rylee Erisman, has reclassified to the class of 2026 in order to begin her tenure at Cal in the fall of 2026.

Su’s best times would already score in the ‘C’ finals of the 100/200 breast and 400 IM at the ACC Championships. It took 1:58.69 to earn a second swim in the 200 IM at the 2025 conference meet.
