Cal Baptist’s Mario Del Valle Sweeps Men’s Events At Air Force Diving Invite

USAFA, CO — The California Baptist diving team continued their season this weekend at the Air Force Academy Diving Invitational in Colorado. The week saw one Zone E qualifying score, along with a sweep on the men’s side.

Mario Del Valle had the big weekend for the Lancers as he swept the board, winning all three events. Del Valle started the weekend with a win in 3m diving with a score of 378.85. He added a win in 1m on Friday with 372.35 points, and concluded the weekend with 408.40 points in platform.

Gael Jimenez added a second-place finish in 1m for the Lancers with 370.20. John Angelovic placed fifth in 3m (318.50) and 1m (285.40).

Audrey Easter added a Zone E qualifying score for the Lancers this weekend as she scored 232.75 points in the platform prelims.

The Lancers will continue the season next month at the MPSF Conference Tournament. The NCAA Diving Zone E Championships will begin on March 9.

USAFA, Colo. – Natalia Bedolla opened the Air Force Diving Invitational with an event win in the 1-meter springboard on the opening day at Cadet Natatorium on Friday afternoon.

How it happened
The diving invitational opened with the 1-meter springboard. Bedolla and Grace Ally qualified into the events final after a preliminary scores of 260,20 and 242.50, respectively. Bedolla was the second seed going into finals while Ally sat in seventh. Parker Connor finished the morning prelims in 31st place (185.55) and Arianna Pelligra took 33rd (177.20).

Bedolla claimed the event win with a final score of 276.30, holding off second place finisher Ovesen (274.60) from Colorado State by 1.70 points. Ally finished in the top ten taking ninth with a score of 235.95.

Up next: The dive meet continues with the women on the 3-meter on Friday Jan. 30 at 10:30 a.m. MT in the Cadet Natatorium.

USAFA, Colo. – Fresno State closes out the Air Force diving invite with their second event win , after Grace Ally topped the competition in the platform event.

How it Happened 
All four Bulldogs qualified into the final round of the platform event after a stellar preliminary session. In prelims  Ally took the top seed with a score of 247.10, Parker Connor rounded out the top five with a score of 196.80. Natalia Bedolla claimed the tenth place finish on a score of 196.80. Arianna Pelligra earned the last qualifying spot in 12th with a score of 180.15.

Bulldogs fell in nearly the same way place wise for finals. The senior of the crew,  Ally once again finished at the top with a score of 273.75. Fellow senior Bedolla closed the gap from her tenth seed placement to take second place. Connor and Pelligra matched their prelims place taking fifth and 12th once again, respectively.
