Bucknell Women Cruise, Men’s Team Overtakes Delaware Late To Win Bison Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa. – The Bison women’s swim & dive team continued to excel at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday and finished with 1,312 points to earn first place at the three-day event. The Bison, which led throughout the weekend, edged second-place Fordham (1,151.5) along with the rest of the eight-team field.

The Bison captured two more runner-up finishes on Sunday, giving them five on the weekend. Notably, Bucknell’s second-place 400 freestyle relay team (Jennifer BoldenSophia DonatiKayla LichtnerEsme Hunter) posted the third-fastest time in program history with a 3:23.70.

Jennifer Bolden also moved to fifth on the program’s top-10 list in the 100 freestyle, clocking a 50.90 to finish third at the meet.

Sabrina Vumbacco was Bucknell’s other runner-up on Sunday as she swam the 1650 freestyle in 17:00.31. It was Vumbacco’s third runner-up finish of the weekend. She was joined in the event by freshman Claire Kehley, whose 17:07.88 was good enough for sixth at the invitational and placed her 10th on the program’s top-10 list.

While Bucknell did not have an event champion over the weekend, it saw nine top-3 finishes and 28 top-8 finishes overall.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s swim & dive team overtook Delaware with two first-place finishes and 12 top-8 finishes overall on Sunday at Kinney Natatorium to win the 2022 Bucknell Invitational. The Bison totaled 1,346.5 points over the three-day event.

Delaware, which led after Friday and Saturday’s events, finished second with 1,332 points. The Bison sealed the win Sunday evening with a first-place finish by the 400 freestyle relay team (John GehrigJustin DiSantoChris FabianLeo Kuyl), which registered the program’s second-fastest time ever at 2:57.27. It was one of four events where Bucknell posted program top-10 times on Sunday.

Gehrig was also a 200 butterfly champion (1:46.38) on Sunday as Bucknell totaled six event wins overall throughout the weekend, five of which the junior was a part of. It was a particularly strong day for the Bison in the 200 butterfly with Shane Wynne adding a fourth-place finish and Andy Dorsel grabbing fifth. Wynne’s 1:48.33 placed him fourth on the program’s top-10 list.

Braden Beagle and Justin DiSanto also added program top-10 finishes in the 200 backstroke and 100 freestyle, respectively.

Along with his contribution to the winning 400 freestyle relay, Leo Kuyl grabbed a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle.

Chris Kopac (1650 freestyle) and DiSanto (100 freestyle) added third-place finishes for the Bison as well on Sunday.
