Bucknell Women, Boston U Men Earn Wins In Split Dual

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team defeated Boston University 160.5-139.5 on Saturday afternoon at the FitRec Competition Pool. Clara Renner won all three events she competed in as the Bison won seven events and went 1-2 in five of them.

Renner won the 1,000-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle. Kelly Byrne also had a great day finishing in the top-two of all three of her events. Byrne won the 200-yard breaststroke and took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM.

Kyla Kelly won both of her events, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM. She then took second in the 100-yard freestyle.Sydney Jee went on to win the 200-yard breaststroke.

Boston U. opened the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, but the Bison got points back taking second and third in the event. The Bison then took the next two events.

Renner and Byrne went 1-2 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and then went 1-4 in the following event. Kelly won the 200-yard freestyle, followed up by Virginia Hastings in second, freshman Tessa Feld in third and freshman Keira Giles in fourth.

The Bison took the top-three spots in three of the final four individual races on the day in the 200-yard breaststroke, the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM.

Dea Mielenz placed fifth in the three-meter dive, and Natalie Penman placed fifth in the one-meter dive.

Bucknell is back in action on October 25 to host the Bucknell Invitational at the Kinney Natatorium.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team fell to Boston University 172.5-127.5 on Saturday afternoon at the FitRec Competition Pool. Drew Davis collected two wins as the Bison won six events in the meet.

Boston U. won the first three events before Davis won the 100-yard backstroke. Davis had a great weekend, picking up two wins in yesterday’s win at Holy Cross. The Bison made it four straight events with a win as James Lombardi won the 100-yard breaststroke, Shane Wynne won the 200-yard butterfly and Finn Russell won the 50-yard freestyle.

Freshman Jason Kellerman won the 100-yard butterfly and also took a second-place finish in the 200 IM. Davis won the 200 IM for his second win of the day. Davis also took second in the 200-yard backstroke and Lombardi took second in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Connor Thurston placed fourth and Jackson Vinarub took fifth in the three-meter dive. Vinarub, Thurston and Jack Krug all placed in the one-meter dive.

Boston won 10 events in the meet, including all relay races.

BOSTON – The Boston University women’s swimming & diving team competed in its home opener on Saturday afternoon at FitRec Competition Pool, falling to Bucknell by a score of 160.5-139.5.

Freshman Danka Ndubuisi swept the backstroke events and classmate Molly Barber took both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Fellow freshman Kiki Rampersad won the 100 butterfly for the second straight dual.

Sophomore MollyEllen Crowley (1-meter) and freshman Alayna Kennedy (2-meter) swept the diving events while both relays came out on top.

Barber swam the 50 freestyle in 23.14, tying her for fifth all-time at BU, and then won the 100 freestyle in 51.82.

After opening her career last week with the 10th-best BU time in the 100 butterfly, Rampersad moved up to eighth with a winning time of 55.39 on Saturday. She also was runner-up in the 100 breast (1:06.55).

Ndubuisi, who won the 50 freestyle and 200 breast in last week’s win at Holy Cross, added wins in other events, taking the 100 back in 57.13 before claiming first in the 200 back (2:02.68).

Crowley earned the top two scores of her BU career, winning the 1-meter at 292.50 before finishing runner-up in the 3-meter (263.40). Kennedy did the opposite, winning the 3-meter (294.23) while finishing second in the 1-meter (278.03).

BU (1-1) will return to action on Halloween when it hosts Boston College and Army West Point for a double dual starting at 5 p.m.

BOSTON – The Boston University men’s swimming & diving team topped Bucknell for the second consecutive year, earning a 172.5-127.5 victory at FitRec Competition Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Giovanni Sullo (1000, 500) and freshman Nathan Lee (200, 100) each picked up two freestyle wins while freshman Ethan Wong swept the diving events.

Three other Terriers – senior Tony Ponomarev, sophomore Gannon Flynn and junior Henry Dvorak – each earned a win and both relays had first-place finishes.

Sullo posted winning times of 9:42.25 in the 1000 and 4:39.83 in the 500 and added a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly (1:52.26).

Lee picked up his first collegiate win by clocking in at 1:40.59 in the 200 freestyle before adding another victory in the 100 (45.98).

Wong continued his strong start to his BU career, posting a impressive score of 332.63 to win the 3-meter and then taking first in the 1-meter with a score of 320.48.

BU’s two tranfers this year each earned their first wins as Terriers as sophomore Gannon Flynn came out on top in the 200 breast (2:07.30) before junior Henry Dvorak won the 100 butterfly (50.84).

Senior Tony Ponomarev won the 200 back in a time of 2:07.30 and was runner-up in the 100 back (50.11).

BU, now 2-0, will return to action on Halloween when it hosts Boston College and Army West Point for a double dual starting at 5 p.m.
