Bryant Makes NEC Debut Against LIU

Smithfield, R.I. – The Bryant University men’s swimming and diving team made their Northeast Conference debut against Long Island University on Saturday, February 13th, in the Chace Athletic Pool. The meet wasn’t scored.

Coach Cameron’s Comments:

Good job by our men today. Just good to have an in-person meet, to step up and compete against another team. Got a lot of work to do, but I’m confident we’ll be productive in the coming weeks.”

Notes and Notables:

  • The Bulldogs began the 2021 season with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Matt Mays, Calvin GroenewoldEric Bebel, and Reese Stevenson recorded a time of 1:35.52 to earn the victory.
  • The Black and gold continued to find the podium with a second (1:49.48) and third-place (1:49.56) finish in the 200 Free by Matthew Mastroianni and freshman Chase Konstantakos. They had the same finish in the 100 free with times of 48.25 and 49.68.
  • Mays continued his momentum from the end of last season with a victory in the 100 and 200 Back with times of 52.84 and 1:55.31 respectively.
  • FuKang Wong, who dominated the breaststroke last year at the MAAC Championships continued his winning ways with a first-place finish in the 100 Breast (56.96). Fellow Bulldog Groenewold finished right behind him by recording a time of 59.17.
  • Bryant found the podium again with a second-place by Bebel (22.08) in the 50 free.
  • Groenewold earned his first victory as a Bulldog in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:09.37. He also finished second in the 200 IM (2:01.17).
  • The Black and Gold had another second and third-place finish in the 500 free by Tyler Stringfellow (5:02.68) and Konstantakos (5:09.39).
  • Bebel capped off his productive meet with a victory in the 100 fly (52.13)
  • Bryant kept up their top finishes in relays with a first (3:12.21) and third-place (3:21.21) finish in the 400 free relays. Mastroianni, Mays, Bebel, and Konstantakos teamed up for victory and Chris Kerrigan, Aaron Kohadarkovsky, Payton Nicastro, and Stringfellow earned third.

Next Up:

The Bulldogs will travel to the Ocean State capital to face off against Providence College on Saturday, February 20.

okay but I mean… LIU won lol. Their first meet ever and they beat the conference champs.

I would just like to say that Bryant is also in Rhode Island and therefore is already in the Ocean State.
