Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Emma Hagberg has made a verbal commitment to swim and study at Southern Methodist University. She confirmed the decision on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m so happy to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the Southern Methodist University! I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity and I’d like to thank all my coaches who’ve helped me get to where I am today and my family and friends for supporting me all the way! Thank you Coach Ozzie for this opportunity and I’m excited for the next chapter down in Dallas. Go Mustangs!!!!
Top SCM/LCM Times:
- 50 Freestyle: 25.93/26.59
- 100 Freestyle: 57.30/58.49
- 100 Backstroke: 1:03.31/1:06.15
The future Mustang hails from London, England, where she trains year-round with Mount Kelly Swimming. She specializes in sprint freestyle, though she’s also strong in the 100 backstroke.
Hagberg has posted times of 25.93 and 57.30 in the short course meter 50 and 100 free, and 1:03.31 in the 100 back. In long course meters, she has clocked times of 26.59, 58.49, and 1:06.15.
Her best times have come at various local meets over the past two seasons. She recorded her 50 LCM free best at the GoCardless Swim England Summer Meet in July 2024, followed by her 100 SCM back at the PNSC 1st Chance Qualifier in October 2024. A few months later, she set her 100 SCM free best at the South West Regional Winter Meet, and her 50 SCM free best at the GoCardless Winter Championships in December 2024. Both her 100 LCM free and 100 LCM back were produced this past summer at the 2025 edition of the GoCardless Swim England Summer Meet.
Using SwimSwam’s time converter, Hagberg’s short course meter times work out to around 23.36 and 51.62 in freestyle and 57.03 in backstroke when converted to yards, while her long course meter times translate to about 23.23, 51.25, and 58.51. It’s important to note that converted times are not 100% accurate and should be viewed as approximations. Still, they help provide some perspective on how her performances could translate into the shorter pool.
SMU, led by third-year head coach Ozzie Quevedo, competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Last season, the Mustang women placed 14th out of 15 teams at the conference meet.
At the 2025 ACC Championships, which featured ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals, it took 22.41 in the 50 free, 48.72 in the 100 free, and 53.18 in the 100 back to score.
Junior Maddy Parker led the program in the 50 and 100 free with times of 22.26 and 48.09, while freshman Teia Salvino topped the squad in the 100 back at 52.98. Hagberg will overlap with Salvino for two seasons, adding depth to the Mustangs’ backstroke group.
With graduations factored in, Hagberg’s best time in the 50 free puts her in contention to be on SMU’s 200 free relay, while she’ll need to approach breaking 50 seconds to make the 400 free relay lineup.
Set to join Hagberg in SMU’s 2026 recruiting class are breaststroker Anna Bonecka, distance freestyler Ella Houston, backstroker Tessa Christiansen, and breaststroker/IMer/mid-distance freestyler Emma Bibza.
