Breaststroker Christian Sawyer Commits to Shippensburg Raiders

Christian Sawyer of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania has announced his commitment to swim for Shippensburg University in the fall. Sawyer swam for Seneca Valley High School and specialized in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM.

“I am very excited to announce my commitment to Shippensburg University and study in the Grove College of Business! I can’t wait to follow in my cousin’s footsteps and swim under Coach Verge and be part of a young and energetic team. I chose Ship because I loved the campus, business school, housing options, and the team dynamic.”

Sawyer also swims year-round for Seneca Valley Swim Club. He went best times in both his key events as a senior at League championships in February. He subsequently lowered his PBs in the 50/100/200/500 free, 100 back, 200 breast, and 100 fly at Allegheny Mountain LSC Senior Short Course Championships and at Akron Sectionals. He then kicked off 2018 long course season with a new time in the 100m back.

Sawyer will be an immediate-impact player for the Raiders; his best times would have placed him among the top-3 or top-4 on the 2017-18 team in the 100/200 breast and 200 IM.

Top SCY times:

  • 100 breast – 1:00.29
  • 200 breast – 2:14.23
  • 200 IM – 2:02.59
  • 50 free – 23.63
  • 100 free – 51.70
