Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Breaststroke and IM specialist Madeline Bichon, a native of Denver, Colorado, has committed to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. She trains year-round with the Denver Hilltoppers and attends Denver South High School.
She confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:
I am blessed to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay. I’d like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for their unconditional love and support throughout this process. A big thank you to Coach Alex and Coach Grace for giving me this incredible opportunity to compete at the Division 1 level. I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing team. Go Phoenix!
Bichon’s most important meet of her final high school season was the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) 5A State Championships in early February, where she competed in the 100 breast and 200 IM. She touched the wall in 1:09.20 for 25th in the 100 breast, and also notched a season best of 2:14.91 en route to 29th in the 200 IM. Beyond her individual events, she logged a personal best of 26.87 leading off Denver South’s 29th-place 200 free relay.
She wrapped up her season with her club at the Speedo Sectionals in Austin at the end of March, where she produced her current best times of 1:07.74 in the 100 breast, 2:24.68 in the 200 breast, and 2:12.65 in the 200 IM. Those times earned her 70th, 53rd, and 110th, respectively.
Top SCY Times:
- 100 Breaststroke: 1:07.74
- 200 Breaststroke: 2:24.68 (altitude time of 2:23.87)
- 200 IM: 2:12.65
- 400 IM: 4:44.63
Alex Lewis took the helm of the UWGB program in November 2021. He was able to hire a full-time assistant coach and a graduate assistant last season; in the first three years of his tenure as head coach, it was just him and a diving coach.
The UWGB women took sixth out of six teams at last year’s Horizon League Championships. A year prior, they finished last in the conference as well.
The conference meet scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals, and Bichon’s best time in the 200 breast would have placed her 13th out of prelims and into the ‘B’ final. In the 100 breast and 200 IM, times of 1:06.22 and 2:09.37 were required to secure a lane in the consolation final.
According to the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Bichon’s 200 breast would have ranked first on the team, while her 200 IM would have situated her third and her 100 breast fifth.
Senior Bubbles Eilertson led the Phoenix in both the 100 breast (1:04.66), while graduate student Ella Anderson led the way in the 100 breast (2:25.75) and freshman Hailey DuVall was the top 200 IM performer (2:11.15).
Bichon joins Avelyn Brown, Hannah Tubbs, and Lindsey Schlegel in UWGB’s 2030 recruiting class.
The swimmers will arrive on a campus that has recently made several upgrades to its aquatic center, including a new $65,000 video board. The facelift at the pool comes amid other positive momentum for the NCAA Division I program, which included the reinstatement of athletic scholarships for the 2024-2025 season, four years after they were eliminated in a budget measure.
