Boston U Sets Numerous Pool Records In Sweep of Holy Cross In Turnpike Trophy Meet

WORCESTER, Mass – The Boston University women’s swimming & diving team closed out the first half of its season with a 214-86 road victory over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center Pool.

Both relays (200 medley, 200 free) set pool records and freshman Han Hoang’s opening 23.30 in the 200 freestyle relay was also a pool record. Hoang collected three individual wins while senior Clarissa Hoyt earned two wins and junior Sophia Souza swept the diving events.

Hoang claimed wins in the 100-yard IM (1:00.18), 50-yard backstroke (26.45) and 50-yard fly (25.52) while Hoyt won the 50- and 200-yard breaststroke races with times of 30.76 and 2:27.59. After winning the 1-meter dive with 301.88 points, Souza claimed a win in the 3-meter event with 281.33 points.

The 200-yard medley relay of senior Lara Mitchell, junior Fia McCarty, junior Sasha Ramey and senior Madison Kim took over the pool record in a time of 1:46 72. To close the meet, Hoang, senior Sydney Sorbello, sophomore Stella Langenbach and Kim set a new pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.41.

Other individual winners for BU were junior Keilah Eckhart (200 fly, 2:13.17), Langenbach (50 free, 24.86), Kim (100 free, 53.01), freshman Izzy Valantiejus (500 free, 5:16.48) and freshman Izzy Ramos (200 IM, 2:10.75).

The Terriers now stand at 3-1 on the season with a 2-1 record against Patriot League opponents.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Highlighted by six pool records, the Boston University men’s swimming & diving team closed out the first half of its season with a 212-82 victory at Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center Pool.

Senior Justin Lee won three events, graduate student Kyle Falkstrom collected two wins and set a pair of pool records and senior Jackson Olin won the 200-yard backstroke in a pool-record time of 1:54.38.

Lee touched the wall first in the 100-yard IM (51.97), 100-yard freestyle (47.57) and 50-yard butterfly (2:02.93). After winning the 50-yard breast in a time of 25.74 seconds, Falkstrom set the pool record in the 200-yard breast with a time of 2:02.93 and also set the 100-yard pool record in the process with a first-half time of 56.90 seconds.

The 200-yard medley relay of junior Keegan Duffy, Falkstrom, junior Jed Tan and senior Adrien Pierce won in a pool-record time of 1:33.63 while the 200-yard free relay of sophomore Ben Cho, Lee, freshman Jonny Farber and Pierce broke the pool record by posting a time of 1:25.00. Cho’s leadoff time of 21.38 seconds set a 50 free pool record.

Other individual winners on the day were senior Dolan Grisbaum (500 free, 4:48.75), freshman Jonathan Tsang (200 fly, 1:54.39), junior Pier Bressan (200 free, 1:43.55), Farber (50 back, 25.01), Cho (50 free, 21.60), freshman Zein Mahana (3-meter dive, 265.95) and freshman Evan Liu (200 IM, 1:57.75).

With the win, the Terriers improve to 2-2 on the year and 1-2 against Patriot League opponents.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team was upended 214-86 by Patriot League rival Boston University during a Turnpike Trophy meet Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center Pool.

The setback sends the Crusaders to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in league contests while the Terriers improve to 3-1 and 2-1 in conference action.

Sophomore Ainsley Nalen collected a pair of first place finishes. She hit the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.84) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.84). Freshman Courtney Boghosian followed Nalen in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:10.33 for second place.

Sophomore Sabrina Conrad placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.56) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.97). Senior Ayden Chanin competed in the 100-yard freestyle and finished second at 54.39. Senior Greta Walting was second in the 50-yard breaststroke (30.82). Freshman Devin Brindle earned second during the 50-yard freestyle (25.15).

The 200-yard medley relay grouping of Boghosian, Walting, Brindle and Nalen brought home second at 1:49.72.

The Crusaders are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024 when they travel to Colgate for a Patriot League dual meet at noon.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team concluded 2023 with a 212-82 loss to Patriot League foe Boston University Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center Pool.

The loss sends the Crusaders to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in league meets while the Terriers level their mark at 2-2 and 1-2 PL.

Senior Charlie Nascimben had three second place showings. He finished second in the 100-yard individual medley (53.11), the 50-yard breaststroke (26.66) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.00).

Sophomore Jack Greiner also finished in second twice, in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.98) and in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.83). Junior Rory Hess earned in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.25).

In the diving events, freshman Luke Parada brought home first in the one-meter dive at 286.95.

Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024 when they travel to Colgate for a Patriot League dual meet at noon.
