Bolles Wins Combined 2014 Winter Junior Nationals Team Title

The Bolles School has won the overall combined-gender 2014 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals team championship, improving off of a second-place finish behind the Dynamo Swim Club last season.

The Bolles boys also won their championship, beating out PASA by a significant margin of 426-307, while Y-Spartaquatics and the Scottsdale Aquatic Club tied for 1st in the girls’ standings.

This was a true combined effort for the team from Jacksonville, Florida, as both their boys’ and girls’ teams scored more points than they did last year. The girls were 6th in their rankings with 171 points. This will make a poetic ending to the tenure of Sergio Lopez as the head coach at Bolles – this will mark as his last major championship meet before leaving to take over as the head coach of the Singapore National Team next year.

Coming in 3rd overall was the Scottsdale Aquatic Club – ironically buoyed by the girls’ team, who tied for first in their division. The boys’ team, who finished 5th among male squads, received much of the attention this week with Ryan Hoffer breaking three National Age Group Records.

Taylor Ruck, however, did plenty of damage for the Scottsdale girls by winning three events of her own (100 back, 200 back, 500 free).

The top finishers in each scoring category are below.

Note that per USA Swimming rules, teams cannot place in the combined category unless they have scored points in both genders.
