Imri Ganiel

Imri Ganiel represented Israel in the 2012 London Olympics and is currently training at the University of Texas.

Born on Jan. 8, 1992 to Amir and Dana Ganiel, he had an icon from an early age in his father, who swam at USC in the early ’80s.

He red-shirted his first year at Texas, and is currently in his RS sophomore season. Ganiel is Israel’s national record in the 100m breaststroke.

2013-2014

After sitting out the first season Ganiel was the Big 12 champion in in the 100 breaststroke, the 400 medley relay and the 200 medley relay swimming the breaststroke legs.

He advanced to the 2014 Men’s NCAA DI Swimming Championships where he placed 24th in the 200 breaststroke and 32nd in the 100 breaststroke. In the relay events he joined Longhorn teammates to place third in the 400 medley relay, earning him an All-American nod.

International Competition

Before swimming in the NCAA Ganiel has represented Israel in the Olympics, the European Championships, Youth Olympic Games and European Junior Championships.

At the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore Ganiel 50 and 100 breaststroke. He followed up his performance in Singapore by placing 10th in the 100m breaststroke at the 2010 European Junior Championships.

Two years later, 2012, Imri placed sixth in the 100m breaststroke at the European Championship in Debrecen, Hungary (1:00.96).

Imri swam in the 2012 London Olympics finishing 32nd.
