Binghamton Sweeps Hannah/Gibbons Invite At Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Binghamton swimming & diving teams launched their 2025-26 campaign by sweeping the Le Moyne Invitational on Sunday at the Nottingham High School Pool. The Bearcat men finished with 2,116 points compared to 1,756 points for the host Dolphins. On the women’s side, meanwhile, it was Binghamton scoring 2,365.5 points to outdistance Le Moyne (1276.5) and Stonehill (2363.5).

Sophomore Evan Peters and freshman Eva Smith each captured a meet-best three individual events. Peters swept the men’s 50 free (21.36), 500 free (4:47.33) and 100 free (47.31) while Smith was victorious in the women’s 50 back (27.02), 500 free (5:21.48) and 100 back (58.60). 

The most impressive results on Sunday, however, were turned in by Binghamton’s divers, which posted three NCAA Zone qualifiers. Junior Dylan Norby and sophomore Jacob Koclanis went 1-2 in the men’s three-meter event with qualifying scores of 345.35 and 332.75 respectively while senior Elizabeth Tirado hit the mark in the women’s three-meter competition with a winning score of 282.35. Koclanis also won the men’s one-meter board with a score of 296.30. 

The Bearcat women also posted three double-event winners on Sunday. Senior Maria Pignatelli was first in the 50 free (24.74) and 50 breast (31.01), freshman Julia Iwanow won the 200 IM (2:12.07) and 100 breast (1:06.88) while junior Haley Nowak took top honors in the 50 fly (26.70) and 100 fly (58.94). In addition, Pignatelli also anchored all three first-place relays (200 medley, 200 free and 400 free).

Binghamton’s double-event winner on the men’s side was freshman Isaih Francis, who swept the 50 back (24.35) and 100 back (52.66)

Other individual winners on Sunday included sophomore Jonah Kirschbaum in the men’s 100 fly (53.16), freshman Lauren Maierle in the 200 free (1:59.66) as well as senior Liam Preston in the men’s 200 free (1:43.53). Preston also anchored the first-place 200 free relay and 200 medley relays and led off on the winning 400 free relay.

Binghamton returns home to host Niagara on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams hosted the Hannah/Gibbons Invite at Nottingham High School on Sunday afternoon. The men’s team fell, 2180-1812, in their dual-meet with Binghamton while the women’s squad came in second of three with a final score of 1330.5. Binghamton (2427.5) took first place while Stonehill (1266) rounded out the event in third place.

Women’s Squad:
The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Selena Snow (Ijamsville, Md. / Oakdale), freshman Katelin Fawcett (Littleton, Colo. / Thunderridge), senior Brooke Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland), and junior Kayleigh Bigwarfe (Glenmont, N.Y. / Bethlehem) took second place with a final time of 1:51.93.

Fawcett placed fourth in the 200-yard IM, coming in at the 2:17.75 mark before taking third in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 31.75. She then added another fourth-place finish with a time of 1:09.13 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of junior Lucy Catalano (Glenville, N.Y. / Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Sommo, sophomore Kaiya Fraley (Watervliet N.Y. / Shaker), and Bigwarfe placed third in the event, coming in at 1:44.79.

Freshman Shea Gillespie (Oro Medonte, O.N. / St. Joseph’s) earned fourth place in both the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle events, coming in at the 5:24.52 and 2:02.97 marks, respectively.

Sophomore Gabby Williams (Scotia, N.Y. / Scotia-Glenville) took the top spot in the one-meter dive, setting a new school record with a score of 267.25.

Bigwarfe claimed third place with a time of 55.34 in the 100-yard freestyle.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of senior Sophia Stinnett (Hillsborough, N.C. / Cedar Ridge), Fraley, Sommo, and Bigwarfe claimed third place with a final time of 3:45.82.

Men’s Team:
The 200-yard medley relay team consisting of freshman Owen Daniels (Rhinebeck, N.Y. / Redhook), sophomore Lucas Clay (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker), sophomore Alexander Pilieci (Ottawa, O.N. / John McCrae), and junior Justin Enser (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton) earned second place with a final time of 1:35.45.

Clay placed second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:56.43 before finishing first in the 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard breaststroke with final times of 26.24 and 57.28, respectively. He added another first place finish at the meet, taking the top spot in the 100-yard IM with a time of 53.49.

Pilieci earned first place in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 24.01. Pilieci then claimed third place in the 100-yard butterfly event, registering a time of 53.18.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of sophomore Jack Milligan (East Islip, N.Y. / East Islip), Enser, sophomore Nolan Carner (Weedsport, N.Y./ Weedsport), and junior Michael Han (Auckland, New Zealand / Pakuranga College) finished second, coming in at 1:27.96.

Freshman John Mummery (New Windsor, N.Y. / Newburgh) placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.78.

The 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Han, Clay, Enser, and Milligan wrapped up the meet with a second place finish, coming in at the 3:12.89 mark.

What’s Next:
The Dolphins will head to Hamilton, N.Y. to take part in the Colgate Invite on Friday-Saturday, October 10-11.
