Billings Central Sweeps Montana AB Titles For Sixth Straight Year

Billings Central remains the center of Montana Class AB swimming and diving.

For the sixth straight year, the Billings Central girls and boys swept the titles at the Montana High School Association AB Swimming and Diving Championships.

Girls’ Recap

Billings Central was led by sophomore Vanessa Sheridan, who won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay squads.

Sheridan repeated as champion in the 100 fly, coming in with a time of 58.76. She later won the 500 free in 5:06.90.

In the 200 medley relay, Sheridan split 25.81 on the butterfly leg to help Billings Central win in a time of 2:00.50. Other team members were Teaghan Vaira (29.83), Lucy Baker (39.03) and Alli Teerink (25.83).

Sheridan later had a 25.24 anchor split to help Billings Central win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:47.44. The other team members were Teerink (26.99), Sarah Spini (28.32) and Lauren Kimmet (26.89).

The other multi-event winners were Columbia Falls sophomore Catherine Opalka and East Helena junior Sway Longshore.

Opalka claimed the 200 IM in a time of 2:;15.28, and then won the 100 back in 59.83, both personal bests. Last year, Opalka was the champion in the 100 breast.

Longshore won both sprint freestyle events, repeating as champion in the 50 free in a time of 25.01 before winning the 100 free in 54.00.

Other event winners were:

  • Whitefish sophomore Liesel Klein won the 200 free in a time of 2:05.84 after finishing 2nd last year.
  • Butte Central’s Tessa Ganzenmueller was the champion in the 100 breast with a time of 1:14.38.
  • The 400 free relay was won by the Billings Central team of Teerink (57.57), Spini (1:03.41), Kimmet (1:00.82) and Vaira (58.20) in 4:00.00.

Boys’ Recap

Billings Central was led by a pair of juniors who claimed two individual events and were a part of two winning relay teams: Jonas Johnson and Bennett Seitz.

Seitz repeated as champion in both the 200 free and 100 free, winning the 200 in 1:42.47 and the 100 in 46.96.

Johnson won the 200 IM in a personal best 2:01.78 and later took the 100 back in 53.68.

In the 200 medley relay, Johnson had a 25.05 back split to help Billings Central win in 1:42.27. Other team members were Greyson Piseno (28.47), McKade Vaira (24.50) and Ethan Shaub (24.25).

Johnson swam a 22.07 split and Seitz a 21.20 split on Central’s winning team in the 200 free relay that topped the field in 1:31.11. Shaub and Piseno were the other team members.

In the 400 free relay, Seitz had a 49.09 anchor split to help Central win in a time of 3:30.53. McKkade (52.66), Jakob (57.75) and Liam Knight (51.03) were the other team members.

The other multi-event winner was Poison senior Teague McElwee, a Nebraska-Omaha commit. After winning the 100 fly and 100 back last year, McElwee first claimed the 50 free in a time of 21.37. He then repeated in the 100 fly with a time of 50.38.

Central also got victories from Piseno, a senior, and Vaira, a freshman. Piseno won the 100 breast in 1:02.49 after finishing 2nd last year, while Vaira won the 500 free in 5:19.88.
