The established German swim stars demonstrated their talent with fast times on the second day of the German short course nationals.
Paul Biedermann won the 200 m freestyle in 1:43,96 minutes and said afterwards:“It was important for me to win this race, I’am satisfied with the time but of course I always want to swim a little bit faster.“ Steffen Deibler finished second in 1:44,43 Minuten and Philip Heintz third in 1:44,63. Youngster Johannes Hintze set again a 16-years age group record in 1:45,08 in this event.
A class on his own was 200 m breaststroke World Champion Marco Koch – yesterday he swam a new German record in the 400 IM and today he was on German record pace – and finished shy of his own record in 57,29 to 57,05. He was joined on the podium by Hendrik Feldwehr (58,33) and Christian vom Lehn (58,36).
Germany’s sprint lady Dorothea Brandt managed to get her hand on the wall first in the 50m butterfly in 25,94, with her on the podium were Alexandra Wenk (26,27) and Jessica Steiger (26,62). On the men’s side, the old and new German national champion is Steffen Deibler in 22,63 ahead of Maximilian Oswald in 23,54 and Jonas Bergmann in 23,60.
Backstroke specialist Jenny Mensing showed a good performance in the 200 m event and clocked 2:03,55 for gold ahead of Dörte Baumert in 2.06,19 and Maxine Wolters in 2:06,91.

The German short course nationals will continue until Sunday and this meet is the qualification for the European Short Course Championships which will take place in Netanya, Israel, December 2 to 6.
Some German swimmers have announced already that they won’t compete in Netanya due to different reasons. The focus is on the Olympic Games next year or they have safety concerns because of the terror attacks in Paris. Germany’s head coach Henning Lambertz is in contact with the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the situation will be observed constantly. Lambertz stated that at the moment the status is that a German team will attend the European SC Championships. Biedermann and Koch are among those who want to compete there.
On Saturday, the action continues with these prelims in the morning and finals in the afternoon: Women: 200 m butterfly, 50 m backstroke, 50 m breaststroke, 200 m IM, 200 m freestyle, 4 X 50 m medley relay.
