INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University women’s swim and dive team opened the 2025-26 campaign with a dominant showing at the IU Indy Invite, earning wins over all five opponents at the Indiana University Natatorium.
The Falcons topped host IU Indianapolis (211.5–87.5), Saint Louis (233–66), Xavier (202–91), Butler (239–54) and Bellarmine (248–45) to begin the season a perfect 5-0.
“It was a total team effort,” Head Coach Tanner Barton said. “Our ladies brought high energy to the pool deck and they had confidence in themselves and in one another. This is how we kick off the new season!”
Bowling Green set the tone early, winning the 400-yard medley relay behind the quartet of Emily McNicol, Grace Perlberg, Karina Solera and Samia Becdach (3:48.01). McNicol later added individual victories in the 50 and 100 backstroke (25.71, 55.50). In the 50 back, the Falcons went 1-2-3, with Bella Treib (26.42) and Bridget Kurtzweil (26.76) finishing shortly after McNicol.
“Emily McNicol had an incredible day, leading our team in and out of the water,” Barton said. “This is the fastest she’s ever been in the 100 Backstroke during the regular season.”
Freshman Carol Toledo swept the distance events, taking first in both the 1,000 freestyle (10:33.12) and 500 freestyle (5:07.51). Fellow newcomer Lauren Jablonski claimed the 100 breaststroke (1:05.94) in her collegiate debut, leading a Falcon sweep with Perlberg (1:06.20) and Madison Bond (1:06.47).
“Carol Toledo and Lauren Jablonski both had impressive swims and claimed individual victories during their first collegiate meet,” Barton said.
Becdach won the 50 freestyle (23.80) and placed second in the 100 free (51.21). Barton praised her execution and composure in key events.
“Samia Becdach executed her races just like we asked,” he said. “Her offseason training is paying off.”
Bond also recorded personal bests in both breaststroke sprints, clocking 30.96 in the 50 and 1:06.47 in the 100.
“Maddie Bond recorded personal best times in the 50 and 100 breaststroke,” Barton said. “Doing so in October is quite impressive and it’s because she’s seizing every opportunity she has to train and race.”
Grace Bodrock (57.13) and Solera (57.39) claimed first and second in the 100 butterfly, with Solera later winning the 50 butterfly (25.58).
In diving, Natalia Mayorga earned podium finishes on both boards, scoring 259.05 on the one-meter and 259.85 on the three-meter.
To cap off the day, McNicol, Grace Rieskamp, Annie Berrow and Becdach won the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.88).
The Falcons return to Bowling Green on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. to face Miami (Ohio) in a dual meet at Cooper Pool.
