“Best of the Rest” Distance Freestyler Jiarui Xue (2025) Verbals to Princeton

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jiarui Xue from Edina, Minnesota, has announced his verbal commitment to the application process* at Princeton University.

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Princeton University! Thank you to all the people who supported me along the way including my family, friends, and all of my coaches over the years, especially Coach Kate. I would also like to express my gratitude to Coach Matt, Coach Chris, Coach Mia, and Coach Abby, for recruiting me and giving me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Go Tigers!”

Xue swims for Edina High School, where he is a junior, and Aquajets Swim Team. He specializes in distance free and IM and is one of the “Best of the Rest” designees on our Way Too Early list of top recruits from the high school class of 2025. He will join “Honorable Mention” Oliver Rowe on the Tigers’ roster in the 2025-26 school year.

Xue won the 500 free (4:25.19) and was runner-up in the 200 IM (1:48.47) in February at the Minnesota High School Boys Class AA State Championship. He also swam legs on the winning 200 free relay (20.93) and 3rd-place 400 free relay (45.30), helping Edina to win the MSHSL AA state title. It was his second 500 free state title in as many years; he was 4:31.26 as a sophomore. He was also runner-up (1:50.48) in the 200 IM last year.

In club swimming, Xue placed 17th in the 500 free (4:25.52), 2nd in the 1000 free (9:16.10), 7th in the 1650 free (15:22.45), and 10th in the 400 IM. More recently, he competed at the Minnesota Swimming LSC Senior Short Course State Championships, where he won the 1000 free (9:08.30) and 1650 free (15:16.85) with best times. Two weeks later at NCSAs, he competed in the 100, 200, 400/500, and 1500 free; the 200 back; and the 400 IM, coming away with PBs in the SCY 100 free and 200 back and the LCM 200 free, 400 free, 1500 free, and 400 IM. His 1500 time is an Olympic Trials cut.

Xue’s best times would have scored 9th in the 1650 and 10th in the 1000, as well as in the C final of the 500 free at the 2024 Ivy League Men’s Championships. He also would have been a B finalist in the 400 IM and on the B/C-final cusp in the 200 IM.

Best SCY times:

  • 200 free – 1:38.84
  • 500 free – 4:25.19
  • 1000 free – 9:08.30
  • 1650 free – 15:16.85
  • 200 IM – 1:48.47
  • 400 IM – 3:53.53

Best LCM times:

  • 400 free – 4:00.11
  • 800 free – 8:15.42
  • 1500 free – 15:38.14
  • 200 IM – 2:07.87
  • 400 IM – 4:30.63

*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].

Wow! Fantastic range! The LCM times suggest you have plenty of SCY improvements to come, young man. Congrats on earning the opportunity to compete at the Division I level! You’ll love Princeton, PUCSDT, Denunzio Pool and the coaching staff. Matt Crispino, Abby Brethauer and Ted Everett will make you better in and out of the pool. GO TIGERS!
