Bella Ratzlaff, a senior at Franklin Community High School in Franklin, Indiana, has announced her verbal commitment to the United States Air Force Academy for 2020-21.

Ratzlaff specializes in breaststroke and sprint freestyle and swims year-round for Franklin Regional Swim Team. She rebooted all her personal bests during this summer’s long-course season, including 50/100/200/400 free, 100 back, 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM. Most of those came from the 2019 Indiana LSC Senior State Long Course Championships in July, where she swam the 50/100 free, 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 200 IM. She swam the same lineup at the Senior State Short Course Championships last March, finaling in every event except the 100 fly and notching PBs in the 100 free, 100 breast, and 200 IM.
Ratzlaff would have been top-5 in several events (50/100 free and 100/200 breast) on Air Force’s roster in 2018-29, although she remains just a tick outside conference scoring range for the MWC. It took 23.42 in the 50 free, 51.37 in the 100 free, 1:04.53 in the 100 breast, 2:21.28 in the 200 breast, and 2:04.96 in the 200 IM to score at 2019 Mountain West Conference championships. The Falcons graduated most of their sprint freestylers but Ratzlaff will overlap with Lia Campbell. She will also have two years with breaststrokers Evelyn Johnson and Caroline Wittich, both of whom scored in the C-finals of both the 100 breast and 200 breast at MWCs.
