SwimSwam has learned that David Thomas has departed his longtime home of the TSS Aquatic Club, based at the Southport School in Queensland, Australia.
Thomas has joined the coaching staff at Griffith University in Brisbane, Gold Coast, taking on the role of High-Performance Assistant Coach.
Griffith University tells us that Thomas started in his new position this week and will assist head coach Mel Marshall in all things.
Prior to joining Griffith, Thomas had been at TSS since 2012, guiding countless swimmers to success at the state and national level.
Thomas recently took to Instagram to introduce himself, saying he’s originally from England but has been in Australia for over 13 years. He cites Chris Nesbitt as one of his coaching influences and says he wants ‘to be able to coach any stroke across any distance.’
TSS Aquatic has claimed past Olympians to the tune of Cameron McEvoy, Laura Taylor, Kiah Melverton and David Morgan.
Marshall, former coach of prolific British Olympian Adam Peaty, joined Griffith University after last year’s Olympic Games. She originally had Janelle Pallister, an Olympian herself and mom of Aussie superstar Lani Pallister, as an assistant. However, Pallister left to head up Surrey Park this past summer.

Good get for Griffith athletes. 👏
I would add Kai Edwards to the list of TSS Olympians in this story also. TSS certainly was an elite squad circa 2020.
