At Long Last, Lochte’s “Martian Shoes” Revealed

Finally, the biggest mystery of the meet has been solved.

Yes, we have finally seen the long-rumored Ryan Lochte Speedo shoes. I managed to grab this screen shot from Universal Sports as the athletes filed in for the A-final in the 400 IM. After having so many leg problems this season (torn MCL, pulled groin) this season, Lochte may have found a pair of shoes that can keep him healthy, as he flew to an easy win and world-best time in the 400 IM.

When asked about the shoes in a post-meet interview, the typically brief-spoken Lochte had only this to say: “But yeah my shoes, I mean they’re tight I love them.” A perfectly Lochte-esque quote after a perfectly Lochte-esque swim.

More details on the shoes: Lochte, understandably, refers to them as his “martian shoes.” On the bottom of the soles, one has “Ryan”, and one says “Lochte,” meaning that when worn on a pool deck (or a sandy Florida beach), they leave “Ryan Lochte” in the footprints as the wearer walks away.

Update: Now, you can vote on what you think about the shoes. See the right side of the screen!
