Angelina Köhler Clinches 200 Fly Victory To Open German SC Championships

2025 GERMAN SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day one of the 2025 German Short Course Championships unraveled tonight from Wuppertal with swimmers vying for potential slots on the nation’s roster for December’s European Short Course Championships.

Just one swimmer made the grade after tonight’s session, with 2024 world champion Angelina Köhler getting the job done in the women’s 200m butterfly.

25-year-old Köhler stopped the clock at a time of 2:07.54 to grab the gold, beating the field by well over 3 seconds in the process.

The next-closest competitor was represented by Leni von Bonin who touched in 2:11.24 followed by Yara Riefstahl who bagged teh bronze in 2:13.31.

Köhler’s effort cleared the 2:09.00 qualification time needed for Lublin, Poland next month.

Additional winners on the evening included Julia Ackermann, clinching women’s 800m free gold in 8:33.36 and Lucas Matzerath topping the men’s 100m breaststroke podium in 56.83.

Moritz Schaller won the men’s 100m free in 47.47 while Mortiz Bockes clinched the 1500m victory in 14:49.68.

Additionally, Nina Jazy got to the wall first in the women’s 100m free in 53.52 as Lena Ludwig captured gold in the women’s 100m breast in 1:06.65, the sole time of the field under the 1:07 threshold.
