Alessandro Miressi Lowers Men’s 100 FR Italian Record Again with 47.53 in Semis

Following breaking his own Italian Record leading off the men’s 4×100 free relay yesterday, Italian star Alessandro Miressi cracked the record again, this time in the men’s 1oo free semifinal. Miressi entered the meet with a personal best of 47.92, which had stood as the Italian Record since August of 2018. At yesterday’s final of the men’s 4×100 free relay, Miressi led the Italian squad of in 47.74, hitting a personal best in the event for the first time in almost 3 years, and breaking his own national record.

In tonight’s semifinal of the men’s 100 free, Miressi posted a 47.53, touching as the only swimmer in the field under 48 seconds in the first semifinal heat. The swim took another 0.21 seconds off the Italian Record, as Miressi continues to inch himself further under 48 seconds. He’ll have one more attempt at the 100 free at this meet, which will come during tomorrow night’s final. Miressi’s swim today was only 0.03 seconds off Alain Bernard’s European Championships Record of 47.50, which was set back in 2008.

The swim lands Miressi 2nd in the world this year, behind only Russia’s Kliment Kolesnikov, who posted a 47.31 at the Russian Championships back in April.

Miressi got out to a fast start in tonight’s race, splitting 22.73 on the first 50, which was the fastest first 50 split in either heat of semifinals. Here is a split breakdown between Miressi’s 47.74 from yesterday, and his 47.53 from today:
